I had a Colt Combat Commander that was flawless,I was the first to ever fire it!

I had a 10 mil and several other pistols at the time, and needed money to buy some tires for my truck so I sold it to a friend.

Well now I have two many AR/15s,so two years later I now am thinking of tradeing my XM15 E2S
for it and 100.00 bucks!

The commander ser# puts it in at 1981,is this a good or bad year for Colt Commanders?

My other two AR/15s have FS and I hate that AK74 brake on my bushy with a passion!

This pistol came(to me)with checkered wood grips,is that how they came from the factory?

Forgot to add this may be one of the 70 series that fumbled into the 80 series numbers as it has a steel frame not alloy!

Thanks  Bob

I think that this is the Combat Commander. Probably a 70 series.

Well thank you FIJFI I really would like to know as I am butt over backwards into this deal, but it is not a done deal yet!

I think it is a solid deal as I hate that Bushy Brake so bad you just don't want to know!

I have a springfield ultra compact in stainless that has out shot any colt, tauras, smith or other .45 I have owned so since I have shot this Colt before I will not be keeping it!

But just would like some body that knows about these Colts values to say Yes trade it for that PWA preban W/colt A3 upper straight across(because that would be what I am doing)!  Or Not!

Ohh, but I know! I had a Bushy with the brake and it didn't take me very long to decide that it was time to try a RRA with no brake.

Found some more info that might help. Also shown below it, looks like the Series 70 was made until 1983.

The MKIV Series 70 Government Model Colt pistols were manufactured from 1970 to 1983 and have "70G" as a prefix in the serial numbers on the models made from 1970 to 1976. The models made from 1976 to 1980 have "G70" suffixes. Models made from 1979-1981 have "B70" suffixes and models made from 1981 to 1983 have "70B" prefixes. The Series 70 had, in addition to the Government model, a Series 70 Combat Commander, Series 70 Lightweight Commander, and Series 70 Combat Government.

Found this here

Hope this helps.

Well thank you again FIJFI,and quess who got the DEA contract for AR/15s  you bet RRA!

So they must have some quality going for them, even if they had to undercut FN they till have to come up with some MIL-SPEC rifles! Or if not Mil-SPEC at least Gov-Spec!

Maybe it will or has filtered down to us!
