I've owned quite a few Colt's, and I know Colt has come out with some different variations over the yrs, but I haven't seen one like this:
Guy I work with has a Lightweight Commander .45 ser# CLW 01199**. frame is blue ( or black ), but the slide is a high polish stainless. Top of slide is blacked out, as well as the concave area under the muzzle. The grip safety is stainless, as well as the slide stop lever and the main spring housing. My question is do you guys think Colt came out with this pistol ? I'm thinking it may be a put-together rig, but not sure. The guy who has it knows nothing about it or guns in general, and wants to sell it for $650. It is in about 85%-88% condition, only mild use scars and the polished slide has some very subtle tarnished areas. If it is put together, I will probably avoid it, but would jump if it ia all factory. I have seen Colt's like this with a stainless frame/blue slide, but not in this reverse order. Thanks for your help in advance. ETA ; the slide has the older pre - or '70's style rollmark. |

I'm pretty sure this is a put-together as far as the bare stainless grip safety and other parts and the bare polished slide sides.
I've never seen or heard of Colt doing a blackened stainless slide with bare polished slide sides. Sounds like a modified gun. Considering the older style slide stamps, are you 100% sure the slide is stainless and not just polished carbon steel? |
