I'm going to try to find a XSE but haven't quite made up my mind on whether to get a Lightweight Commander or a steel model..
I intend to shoot the pistol quite a bit but mainly want to be able use it as a carry piece.. I won't be carrying it daily but just on occassion. Over the years have the commanders proven to be a reliable platform or should I just stay with a 5'' pistol ? Thanks for any help. |

An alloy XSE Commander is my daily choice. If I was only going to carry it on occaision, I would go with the steel frame version.
The big advantage of the commander is that it does not hit the seat before your ass does. The difference in recoil between a commander and gov't is minimal. If you go alloy frame, there will be a tiny bit more recoil but not much. |

I have a 1991A Series80 commander and the only hicups I have ever had were due to mags and not the gun. I love the old school barrel/bushing and recoil retainer plug. That alone may explain why I have never had issues. Same here. No troubles attributed to the gun after 6000+ rounds. All steel and carried every day. |

I bought a completely wore out project 1991a1 Commander. The thing is in serious need of an overhaul. Shot a few rounds threw it of various ammunition equaling approx 100 rounds so far just to play with it. No failures. The gun of it's size handles really nice. I like it.
The gunshop has a LT Commander in stock. It isn't a Talo and it isn't on Colts Website. I don't know what it is, but it has all the bells and whistles one might ever need. It is beautiful , but at a cost is $1350 it is too much for the unemployed. Still the best Colt to date I've seen fresh out of the factory. |

That alone may explain why I have never had issues. I took same gun to Thunder Ranch in 2000. 1206 rds in five days with zero problems. Used 8rd stainless Shooting Star mags which were flawless. Go to weapon at my house for HD. Good Luck |
