I am looking to get a concealed carry handgun. I keep changing my mind about what it is that I want. At first, I was looking at subcompacts and leaning towards a Walther PPK. Then I decided I wanted a 9mm or larger caliber. I've been looking at the Walther P99, Glock 19, and S&W M&P. The only handguns I've handled that fit what I'm looking for have been the Springfield XD (I don't like the trigger & grip safeties), a Sig (shape just didn't feel good) and the Glock (I liked the feel, but not the trigger safety). Between the P99, Glock, and M&P, can anyone offer advice? I like the look of the P99 the best, but have not yet found one to try.

Glock 19.  Great gun.  Extremely reliable.  Large selection of holsters.  Extra mags are cheap.  Parts are easy to get.  Very simple to maintain.  What's not to love?  I know, I carry one.

Try to shoot all those guns and see which one fits your hand best, feels the best in your hands, and which one you shoot the best. All your choices are good and will do the job, glocks got the track record, i have a M&P, the p99's mags are expensive.

Of the ones you listed I would choose the one that feels right in your hand. The Glocks never felt right in my hand but that is just me.

For me (I have shot all of them) it is an M&P 40c and I will get a 40 full size also.

1911, fullsize or compact.  Very few guns conceal as well; certainly not the glocks, sigs, or XDs.  I have a 1911, Sig P220ST, Sig P239 SAS, and an XD45; I've tried just about every holster I can get my hands on.

When backpacking or open-carrying I take the XD45, for CCW it's always the 1911.

You may also want to consider a Browning Hi-Power.

If you want a good carry gun I'd stay away from the PPK. They tend to be more finnicky with grip and feeding then more modern designs. Also slide bite is going to happen.

My suggestion if you want a classic is a Colt Detective special.

If you really want a tiny semi auto I'd say a Kahr in 9mm/40/45acp.

The down side to the Glock is that it is so much bigger then the Kahr.

If you are willing to go with a bigger gun then I'd recommend a Commander 1911 or a S&W 4" .44 magnum as very carry-able and powerful guns.

I carry a G-26 most of the time and I have lots of other choices.  It's light and good enough.  YMMV.
