I'm having issues with rust on my p3at.  I use the pant clip and as I work construction, sweat a little.  I am just wondering if someone can recommend a good dry lube or something to keep this from happenning?

a very old school method.  Clean the outside real good, use a good car wax.

Yep.  Probably the easiest and most effective thing to do, outside of painting it.

That does not work for me. I have tried several waxes.

The only thing that seems to work is daily applications of CLP.

I've had better luck with a good floor wax (Johnson's Paste Wax) than with a car wax.
Other options would be Eezox if you can find it in your area, or something like Brownell's Aluniahyde II.  An epoxy based spray finish that can be applied over an existing finish.  Or use the Aluminahyde II, then a wax over that.

Have you considered having it hard chromed or nickeled?

I have not thought about the hard chromed.  I will start with the car waxes then get more elaborate from there.  Thanks for all the ideas

I use breekfree on my keltec 380 in South GA and never have rust problems.
My holster is plastic made by grandfateroak. I love this rig.

+1

Johnsons Paste (floor wax) is what the old Harbor Patrol guys in NYPD used to use as well as many motor officers...works well with a couple of coats once they dry and are shined up a bit.

Don't do nickle as it scratches REAL easy.

Lay off the Salt.  You'll be fine.

I have to clean pocket lent from the p3at often. Thats a good time to check for rust relube the gun. I had to cut the magazine button shorter because it would get pushed when I sat down even in a hard plastic holster..

That's all I have ever used.  I kept meaning to try the car wax but never got around to it.

Carnauba Wax

I always used Mother's paste.

Ignore what everyone else has said and go to Brownells.com and get a can of Boeshield.

Actually I think Sears now stocks it.

It's a waxy lube designed by Boeing Aircraft to prevent rust and supposedly works awesome.

So based on no personal experiance you would advise someone to ignore everyone else and go with a product you suppose works awesomely?

They have a word for that I think.

I'm a Construction Superintendent and I've sweated all over my P3AT during the summer months. I just hit it with 3 in1 oil every afternoon. Never any rust from that. My Kahr k9 however, rusted so bad after a bike ride where it got put away wet that it pitted the slide.

Why not just get a decent pocket or IWB holster for it? It would have alot less contact with sweat and would be more secure. Just my .02.

I've had a bunch of different finishes on a bunch of different carry guns, from parkerizing to nickel, to hard chromed to the different gun paints and epoxy finishes to stainless steel parts.  But I've never seen anything that protects from rust better than salt bath nitriding, aka Tennifer and Melonite.

Yep, big +1 to that.  I experienced something similar to the OP's problem when carryin my 1911 in the summer.  It was a daily battle, once or twice a day applying Break-Free to the "trouble spots", and still havin to yank the port side grip panel off and to the "treatment".

I've never tried the wax solution, but it sounds like it would've helped.

This is one of the many reasons I've gone to Glocks for carry.  It is a wonderful thing having that frame soaked in sweat, and it's no problem whatsoever.  And the slide even, haven't seen any rust on any of them in a few years now.

I'd say go with the daily Break-Free routine, or try the wax.

Try wearing a t-shirt as a barrier underneath whatever shirt you are wearing.  Also treat it with CLP prior to wearing.

Some holster designs come all the way up the side of the gun to help keep the gun off your bear skin.  I have Ky-Tac that works great with my G23.

Good luck.
