| I have a .40 and a .45. I'm considering getting a 9mm as well. I'm no fan of Beretta and I really don't want to resort to GLOCK again. So far I'm weighing options between an H&K USP9 and a Sig P226. I've shot both and I like them. However, due to their pricetag, I may consider buying a pre-owned firearm...especially if it were the Sig. What do you guys (gals too) think? Also, what are some other good pieces that I may have overlooked? |

SIG 226, my first, and still my favorite handgun ... Lots of great deals to be had on Pre-owned Sigs, I paid just under 500 for mine and it was like new. Or if you want something a little smaller, like for CCW as another poster mentioned you might look at the 229 too. |

My 9 is a Glock, and it's a OK pistol. Only had one problem with it, but I'm sure it was due to a faulty round. The case had a dimple in it and it jammed in the chamber. It was quite a bitch to get it out. My next pistol may be a steel frame 9mm, so I will be interested to hear what you choose. |
I own both of those weapons and love them. However, considering that you're cost conscious I would strongly recommend you look at the CZ75B. A brand new one will run you less than $500 bucks. After shooting one a couple week ago I am getting one myself. The CZ75B shot AS WELL as my Sigs and HK's. I'm not kidding. CMOS |
The High Power fans always act like it's the greatest handgun known to man but they are definitely not for everyone. I tried one and absolutely hated it. I hate the ergonomics and I hate the look. What works for you does not work for everyone. |
That will be my next purchase as well, without question. I can't really think of a better deal off the top of my head. |
Well that would depend on which pistol you are speaking of. If someone could not hold up one of their steel framed pistols there is the P01 which weighs or feels like it weighs about what my XD and Glock does. I actualy like my steel framed CZ75B though but my P01 is also a favorite of mine.

I cant think of a model of a Sig 9mm you could go wrong with. The P239 is a single-stack for carry... I picked up a polymer frame SigPro for under $500, and it's one of my favorite guns to shoot. Thought 9mm was just a plinker round, but turned out to be one of the best purchases to date. Cheap to shoot, balance is perfect, (3) 15 rounders included. |
It's not the latest thing anymore, that's all. They don't get much attention -- but most people who shoot them end up saying exactly what you did. Accurate and reliable, what more could you ask for? I LOVE my Beretta as well. |

I was in your shoes a few years ago. I thought I wanted a Hi-Power, did all the research on it and saw that a lot of people were recommending the CZ. I bought a used CZ75 and love it. Shot a friends Hi-Power last week (a nice high $$$ target model BTW) and was not impressed with it. It shot well but did not feel as comfortable as my CZ. Maybe with some custom work but I'm not the person who wants to spend money on a pistol right out of the box to make it shoot like you want. Depends all on what trigger pull you want. I hate DA/SA combination of many autos out there. I wanted a nice light single action. With the CZ you can have it either way. I made the right choice. BTW I already had a Glock 40 so I wanted something different. I would not rule out Glock. |
The Walther is a often overlooked design, but an excellent one and something that you should really just pick up and hold in your hand before buying anything else. I like to think of it as an improved Glock with a lot of clever improvments combined with an excellent feel in the grip. You owe it to yourself to find and examine one of these pistols. |
