I am considering trading my Ruger LCP towards a Kahr or a Sig P290. I am not too crazy on the price of the Kahrs, but I am also not too crazy with the idea of buying a Sig P290 and being one of the first people to find out they are crap.
What do you guys recomend in a Kahr? I have looked at the PM9, the MK9, and the MK9 Elite. Is the extra cost of the MK9 and the MK9 Elite worth it? Should I just get the PM9, or lay-a-way the more expensive gun. Please tell me what you think as I have never "lived" with these guns, or even fired one. I am looking for a larger caliber replacement for my LCP, for off-duty pocket carry, on an everday basis. Thanks. |

PM9 is a great gun and SUPER small considering other 9mm and pretty light. Only negative I would see in a MK9 is the added weight of the all aluminum frame, but again, that is only weight. If you are wanting to save a few $$$$, wait until Kahr comes out with their new CM9. It will basically be the same size as the PM9, except with the features of the CW9, which doesn't have as much machining so it keeps cost a little lower. You can't go wrong with any of these pistols though IMHO!
Heck, I have a PM9 and should be receiving my K40 Covert here tomorrow. Good luck and let us know watcha get and how you like it. Thanks Justin |
| Love my kahrs. CW 45 is my briefcase to coat pocket (in transit) piece. PM 9 goes in ankle holster, or sob, or pants pocket for short trips. They have more slide to rail contact than a full sized glock, or for that matter most any full/medium sized poly framed guns. All mine have been/are dead on reliable. They will all hold 3-4 inches @ 25 yds, from a bench rest. I can't shoot worth a crap, so I know the guns are more accurate than me. Night sights are available for the guns from dawson precision, amongst other sources. My 45, and PM 9 wear crimson trace lasers. Simple point and shoot operation. Can't say enough about them. Hope this helps. 44. |

03ranger, I did something similar to what you are contemplating. I have a Kel-Tec P3AT, but the .380 cartridge does not inspire confidence in me. I also had a Kahr MK9. It was easy to shoot well - the weight soaked up recoil nicely. On the other hand, it is heavier than it needs to be for a CCW gun. I ended up trading it for a PM9, and now the PM9 is my EDC pistol, rather than the P3AT.
My recommendation - get the PM9. The recoil is a little more than the steel-framed Kahrs, but unless you are a girly man, it won't be a problem. It's more versatile than the other Kahrs as well. I can either pocket or belt-carry mine with equal ease, and I imagine that it would carry just as easily on an ankle holster. Another option is the Walther PPS; it seems to be highly regarded, but I think it is a little larger than the PM9. Regarding the P290, it may be a great gun, it is still brand-new, and given SIG's QC track record of late, I would suggest letting someone else be the beta-tester. If you are not afraid to be a beta tester, you might want to look at the Kahr CM9 when it comes out (was first shown at SHOT Show 2011). It is essentially a PM9 with less refinements (comes with 1 magazine, simpler machining on the slide, pinned in front sight, etc). |

I'm very happy with my PM9, it has been absolutely reliable. It's very small, and light. Recoil is snappy, but manageable. I have an LCP, and I like it too. The PM9 is nearly as concealable as the LCP, but 9mm>.380.
The PM9 isn't cheap, but to me it's worth it. YMMV |
| I just got a pm9. As a matter of fact today was break in day - first day I shot the gun and decided to do as the manual says and put 200 rounds trough it. I used 200 rounds of pmc 115 grains and 12 rounds of spear gold dot 124 grain +p. I had one feeding issue and the slide failed to lock back a couple of times during the first 100 rounds or so. After that it run smoothly and trouble free. Very accurate at 9 yards. I am very pleased with it and I would def recommend it! |
| Love my PM9. I often forget I'm wearing it and it generally gets warn around the house until I go to bed just because I foget its in the pocket. I bought one of the Agrips from Kahrs website and it makes the gun downright AWESOME. My only previous complaint was that the recoil makes the checkering on the backstrap no fun to shoot in winter months, but with the Agrip its no problem. |

I am really leaning towards the PM9, mostly for costs. I really like the looks of the all stainless gun, and weight ussually isn't much of an issue. I used to carry a full size hi-cap 1911 for EDC before it went out to be spiffed up by my gunsmith.
Let me run this buy you guys; we carry GLOCK 22 (.40) at work. Would carrying a PM40 be warranted for this reason, or should I just stick with the PM9 for carry as a pocket gun? |

Since there's no magazine compatability advantage here, stick with the PM9. |
| A local gun store that I frequent quoted me around $650 for a PM9. I went to another local store that I don't frequent as much (but still like them a lot) and found the same gun at $599. We agreed on $200 for my Ruger LCP in trade towards the PM9. Hell, I figure thats no smoking deal, but its not a bad deal. So I don't own a LCP anymore but I do have a PM9! |

I put two-hundred rounds through my Kahr PM9 today with only one failure; a failure to lock the slide back on the last round. This only happened once and I am inclined to believe I interfered with the slide lock lever while firing the pistol. I do this often with my duty weapon, with how I grip the weapon.
I like this little cannon! The grip checkering is a bit aggressive, but I really don't think this thing is ment to be a comfortable range plinker. I qualified with it after the two-hundred rounds with twenty-five rounds, and that went flawlessly. I am still waiting on the pocket holster and the grip laser. I cleaned and lubed the gun up after my range trip today and everything looks great inside. |

I love my CW9. You gotta break it in though, just like I had to break in my high dollar red wing boots.
Breaking it in is NOT a flaw IMHO. I'll break it in for you if it seems too much. I see that OP bought one and was man enough to break it in himself. The checkering is aggressive and the recoil is stout with the light weight of the pistol. At least you can hang on go the little cannon ( I shall steal this as if it were my saying) |

If it is just essentially a PM9 there shouldn't be any issues when the first come out like other "fresh from the drawing board" pistols....right? |

Another article on the CM9, man I hope this pistol pans-out.
CM9 |

me too. It's either this or the S&W j frame for my ccw. Also hope the seller dont price gouge when they release it. |

I was going to wait on the CM9 but I found this deal on a PM9 so I went for the PM 9. Total price is $549 90 with shipping and I get free transfers from my FFL and no sales tax so I don't see how I could go wrong |
