I have a stupid question.  What causes a trigger to have creep?  Is it the way the trigger is fitted in the frame or lack of proper fit?  Or, does it have to do with the contact points on the trigger, sear and hammer?  Or a combination of all the above?

Usually it's the sear dragging across the hammer hooks prior to release.  A trigger job addresses this by minimizing sear contact, carefully cut angles, poliching, and the shortening of the hammer hooks, among other things.

Not including the points that Hobbs has pointed out,

A Colt model 80 or new Para with a firing pin block, since the trigger movement must lift the cam'g device up to disengage the plunger before the hammer is released.

Or a trigger that is not set correctly and the back of the shoe has slop/distances between it and the sear.
