I have been shooting my friends and families 1911s for many years now. Picked up a new Kimber Custom II for $699 2 weeks ago.
It has eaten everything I put into it with ZERO malfunctions. I am very happy with it.
How did I do?

I just bought mine for $100 more so yeah I'd say you did good. I've seen them on GB for a bit less but then you throw in shipping and FFL fees.....it was there, I had the dough, I bought it

I just paid 819.00 for a custom II and I was happy! Great gun, my only issue was 1 mag.
