The G21 hands down.

G21 for me too.  If you're going to get the .40, get the G35.

I'd prefer the G21 myself, but you'd do well to check 2C what the agency for whom you're going to work permits.  Lots more .40s in l.e. than .45s.

having both, I'd say 21SF.  I like it more than my 22, I also like it more than the regular 21's I've used.

Your main determining factor is what caliber you're authorized to carry.

21 or 21SF .45

Thanks for all of the input.  I see the G-22 has no love here  .45 caliber Glocks don't have the same chamber issues as the .40 cal models do they?  I see more and more info regarding that issue.

Its not that there is no love for the 22.  I think everyone would agree that either would be a good choice and both are great pistols.  You just have to determine which suits you best.

Or get both

.45ACP is a much lower-pressure round than the .40, so you won't hear as many reports of blown cases with .45 ACP rounds, in any manufacturer's pistols.  I reload my .45ACP cases until they split.  Never had one fail yet, and I've put tens of thousands of rounds of my reloads through G21s and a G30.

I have both but the 21 will see more use than the 22 which will probably just be a safe queen I havent even fired it yet so I may end up selling it.

The 40 looks to be way down on votes.  Funny a buddy at the gun store just told me how slow 40 sales had been lately.

get the G22, i have one and love it!  besides a lot of Law Enforcement Agencies are either using the G22 or a .45 GAP

Having had both, I am a G21 fan.  People complain about the grip circumference, but I think it is GTG.  The 21 is accurate, low recoiling and high capacity...it is hard not to like...especially when equipped with TFOs!

$9.99 used LE mags and CDNN say get the G22.  40 is cheaper to shoot and you can stock up on mags cheap.  Whats not to love.  I just got 20 mags from CDNN and they look great.

Beat me to it.  20.  Uber power.

I say this as one of the loudest and proudest Glock 22 owners on the board.

Course I don't even carry a glock anymore

Hello all,
In the near future I was looking for a new Glock for home defense and a firearm that I can use for a position in law enforcement.  I had a bunch of Glock's before but, sold them to make a move out of state  I owned a G-21 and G-22 before and loved them both.  Money is the issue now and can only afford one.  So...which one should I go for first and why?  Thanks for the input people.
Pete

I like my G22. Not as big, cheaper ammo, and it's 15+1!

I can see that the G22 is getting no love around here. I can't say I'm 100% in love with mine, either. However, if you're looking for a home defense/law enforcement applicable firearm, the G22 may be a better bet than the G21. The G22 is more widely circulated in many law enforcement agencies than the G21 AND a .40 S&W round may not cause as much collateral damage as a .45ACP; if a round goes rogue. Also .40 S&W ammo is cheaper and the G22 has a 15rd capacity. Its your choice, choose wisely.

I have a G20, G21, G22, and G23 (thinking about a G24 range toy this fall) and for HD my G22 just nudges out my G21 as the primary HD pistol.  With +2 mag extensions on both, I have 17+1 rds w/my G22 vs 14+1 w/my G21 (the large frame +2 extension only adds +1 45 but +2 10mm).

I'll second the vote that either a G35 or even a G24 would also be a good choice. HOWEVER, as we all say all the time, it really depends upon whichever one works best for you.

Besides, we all also know that given time, you'll end up with both anyway.

Funny thing is...I had both  Now I want atleast one of them back.  I think I might be leaning towards the 22.  Fit my hand like the proverbial glove.

21sf.  We gust got two in to T&E and I love them.  We are issuing the 23 right now and my Deputies are eager to make the switch.  As far as numbers go the dimensions are not that different but when it comes to having my guys close their eyes and feel the difference they all have chosen the SF over the standard 21 which some carry if they provide/qualify with it.

I personally still like my 19 with the grip reduction it is my off duty gun and I keep a 26 on my ankle as a bug at work.  I just do not see the difference given the way we dress in the south.  YMMV.

I will be posting some pictures and results on the glocktalk.com forum soon.  Got a HD Video Camera for my B-Day today!May post some video!

Click here for some quick pics of the 21sf and a 23

Just click on the thumbnails to see a photo.  And yes I did eat at Sonic last night, cherry limeade rocks!

I warn you now these were taken at 0200 on the back of my squad.  Not pretty but does give you some ideas.  BTW check out the pic of a 23 mag in the 21sf mag well not much of a gap.

Thanks for the pic's.  I actually went to the gun shop the other day to compare the 21, 22 and 21 SF.  I did like the feel of the new SF over the old 21 for sure but, I still loved the standard 22 grip the best.  I do appreciate all of the pic's and info.
