| I saw a DW 357 magnum w/ a 4" vented barrel -blue that looks brand new in a pawn shop for $275.00 Is this a good price or should it be cheaper? A model 15-2VH |

That's a pretty fair price, even with only one barrel. I think I paid $450 for my 715 with three barrels. They are great guns, the double action trigger is a little "stacky" compared to a Smith, but the single action is fabulous. I am assuming this is a model 15. If so, the frame is slightly larger than a traditional Smith "K" frame, but most K frame holsters should fit it. Important, make certain you get the barrel tool. The tools are going for around $50 on e-bay. Good site on Dan Wessons: http://www.notpurfect.com/main/dwrev.htm |

The Wessons built thru the 70's and mid 80's were pretty good. All the Silloutte craze They were built in my hometown so we all know someone who worked there FYI-they had a chemical "release" into a stream and that was the begining of the end............ I would have bought it if you didnt already |

I never saw a Dan Wesson revolver that didn't have some issues. I had two back in the 80s when I was silhouette shooting, and was familar with a few others owned by friends. They were 357 Supermags, but other calibers had similar problems. Their quality control sucked. Most people I knew had to send theirs back to the factory at least once to get them to work right. Problems included very rough chambers, soft and improperly sized barrel nuts, canted rear sights, actions out of time new out of the box, non-flat cylinder faces, etc. They were crap. I was very pleased the day I sold them, even though it was at a loss. I've heard it said there were good DW revolvers out there, but I never saw any. If you are considering buying one, check it over carefully. Make sure the barrel nut isn't buggered up. They are easy to crossthread. Check the chambers for roughness and check the timing. If it was me, I'd pass, because for the money, there are plenty of better revolvers out there. |
