Hello all, I recently bought a Dan Wesson Eco, chambered in 45 ACP. I took it to the range today and found myself a problem. Anytime I pulled the trigger, it would fire, but the trigger would not fully reset. I put about 200 rounds thru it, hoping it would loosen up, but the problem persisted. After thinking about it, I had installed a set of the Hogue Finger Groove inserts under the grips, and in doing so, I removed the o-rings that had come installed on the gun from Dan Wesson. I did this thinking that the grip inserts would serve the same purpose as the o-rings did. I loosened the grips screws quite a bit and fired about 100 rounds without the trigger hanging. I plan on getting some more o-rings and trying them but do the grip screws being too tight sound like it would be something that would cause a problem with trigger reset? I own 2 Springfields and 1 Colt but I've never had a problem like this. Can anyone shed some light please? |
| One of the grip screws may be sticking into the frame mag opening and rubbing against the trigger bar possibly? If you loosened the screw so it's not as far into the frame and it was fine, that may be the issue. I would put the factory grips with the O Rings on and screw everything down, then look into the magwell and see if anything is sticking out past the frame. The O Rings are there with grips that don't compress so you can tighten them down. Materials like G10 don't compress and w/o the O Ring, the grip screws often come loose periodically. |

Okay, thanks to both of you. I took the finger groove insert out and installed the grip panels the way that they came from Dan Wesson. Went back to the range and still had trouble with the trigger not resetting. Along the way I noticed that it only seemed to happen with one magazine. Reloaded that one and tried it two more times, trigger wouldn't ever reset properly. Took three other magazines, and it reset as it should while firing. These are Wilson Combat 47 officer magazines so they should be in spec but is it possible that the one "bad" magazine is a little too thick, thus rubbing against the trigger bar, which is causing the trigger not to reset properly? |
| Yeah that's a possibility. Either don't use that mag and/or maybe trigger bow could use some adjustment so it's not as narrow and rubbing on mag. Someone who knows what they are doing could tweak the bow so that it's in the right spot where it's not dragging on frame or mag. |

Update: I took the magazine release out of the gun and slide some magazines thru it where I found that it was hanging on the trigger bow. Took the gun completely apart and took the trigger out. The trigger bow was slightly bent in, just enough to cause some friction. I bent it slightly into place and put it back in the gun and it slid fine. Put 50 rounds thru it today and I had no problems with it, I could tell that the trigger reset was actually a little better too. Halfway thru the box of ammo, I took the o-rings off the grip screws and tightened them all of the way down, just to see if I could force a trigger reset problem like at first but the gun still ran 100%. Overall, I've put about 600 rounds thru it and I'm happy with it now. |
