Has any one heard of attaching the rail using an epoxy? How strong are epoxies (SP?) I am having a GI 45 built up right now and the smith used an Epoxy to attach the light rail. I am unfamiliar with the strength of an Epoxy, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sean |
I would go get my pistol from that gunsmith ASAP! Why in earth would he use epoxy? The Dawson rail comes as a kit with the three screws. It even has instructions for installation. Was he afraid to drill + tap the three holes in the dust cover? My advise is to send the pistol off to Dawson themselves or another capable gunsmith and have it installed correctly. |

Well guys thanks for the input! It was a misunderstanding on my end! The smith drilled and tapped the three holes, and then used an epoxy as a bedding for the rail. I got it back yesterday and it looks great! Now off to be refinished along with a few other mods. The gunsmith that had my .45 originally, came very HIGHLY recommended, and after seeing the work done on the pistol I can see why: The work is ABSOLUTLY FLAWLESS The front strap was "Golf balled" along with the main spring housing, and Chuck Rogers added a recessed lanyard loop. Almost forgot, he added night sights as well. It is now on the way to Bob Rogers to be refinished, sighted in and have all the internals swapped out, and a reliabilty package done. I will post pics when it is done! Sean |
Great news, lets see some pictures! |
