| These seem to be pretty cheap. They have one at my local gunstore that's in fantastic shape for $800. What's the scoop on them? Are they useful or pretty much just nice collector's items? Why are they so inexpensive? How difficult are they to get parts for? |

Deltas are actually one of the more expensive Colts. Anyway, most that you see used are victims of poor upkeep, in that the recoil springs were not changed out on a regular enough basis. I like them, but opinions vary on them. Contrary to popular opinion, I feel they are very durable if properly sprung and maintained. I also like the recoil better on them than .45s, as they seem to recoil faster. I get back on my front sight quicker with a Delta. That said, I'll make my 1911 a .45. Ammo is more plentiful, and they always make a big hole. I've seen quite a few gunshot wounds, and .45 always does well for a handgun, regardless of bullet type or penetration. |
| It depends on which Delta Elite and what shape it is in. If it was in excellent shape and a SS Delta, that would be a fair price. If it were a steel gun that might be high, or if it were beat up. There are others that go for much more, the Gold Cups, National Matches, etc. |
| I paid about 800 for mine in like new condition back in 2001.its pristine .box stock.i very seldom shot it cause i enjoy my 45 and 38 super 1911s better.the delta just seems heavy and cumbersume compared to other 1911s even though they all weight the same empty.the recoil spring makes for a most difficult rack of the slide. |
