What's the difference between the P228 and P229 in 9mm?

How difficult it is to convert a .40 or .357 Sig 229 to 9mm? Recoil spring, barrel, slide, mag?

Thanks, I've got a 226R but I'm a noob when it comes to Sig compacts!

P228 and P229 are fairly similar models.

From http://world.guns.ru/

The P229, which was developed especially for the US market and is assembled in the USA using both German and US-made parts, is technically similar to the P228 except for the heavier slide, made by machining a bar of steel as opposed to the P228 slide, which is made by stamping and forming from sheet steel. The heavier slide on the P229 is necessary because of the more powerful ammunition used in this pistol. P229 pistols also can be adapted to any of three calibers (9mm, .357 and .40) by switching the barrel and return spring; P228 pistols are 9mm only and cannot be converted to other calibers.

You can change a .40 or .357 model to 9mm by purchasing a new barrel at Barsto and a few other custom barrel makers.

Will the P228 and P229 both generally fit in the same holster?

I'm fairly sure that they will fit leather holsters, but some kydex might be a different story.

Yes, if you get a P229 holster.  P229 is slighty thicker than a P228 and a P228 fits comfortably in a P229 holster (I have a Milt Sparks VM2).

As already mentioned, they’ll both fit up pretty nicely in a leather holster.

Nowadays, many (if not most) holsters made for P228’s are listed as fitting both P228’s and P229’s.

Note though that a P229R can be a problem, depending on the holster design.

Also, P229 40 and .357 mags are wider than P228 mags and can be a problem in some P228 mag pouches.
