My new G27 has a more glossy kind of finish vs. my older G23 that seems to be more flat black on the upper. Finger prints also show up different on them as well, anyone know if they changed the finish on these babys and why?

Im still stumped after some research...the newer one almost has a rainbow looking reaction to fingerprints on it.

The "rainbow" effect is the oil from your skin on a dark surface. Just like motor oil on asphalt.

The new glossy Tenifer finish is almost totally resistant to holster wear.  That should please many that dont like their guns to look like they get honest use.

I don't know about that.  And the tenifer is in the metal, not the black finish.

I understand that, but my older G23 does not react that way. Its obvious they changed somthing, just not sure the reasoning why. I would hope it was for a loner lasting finish, just dont know why they chose gloss? Im a fan of the flat black on a pistol.

I preferred the older dull finish, too but this newer finish is almost like a Teflon and wears so much better. I will admit though that I prefer the holster wear look.

The older (nicer IMO) finish was a phosphate finish (parkerizing).
The new finish is Teflon (too slippery).
The Tennifer is in the surface of the steel, under the black.

As I've said in numerous threads, I prefer my older G17 to my dad's newer G27.

OK, well when you discover what miracle finish they are using, let me know, because its almost impervious to wear.

Cool thanks.

I can see the EE posting now.

Glock like new with no visible wear.  It has only shot factory ammo no reloads.  I'll even thrown in 10,000 once fired cases.

To answer your question. Glock is like any other business. The finish change was most likely a money saving step. I know some of the frames are being made here in Georgia now. Maybe they have started doing some of the slide finishing here as well.

I'm sorry, but the newer finish doesn't wear to well. I have 4 different Glocks ( all of them made within the last year and a half) and they all have considerable wear on the slides ( I'll try a post some pics in a few days). This new black finish does not wear as well as the older parkerized finish.

I use my Glocks for Off-Duty carry and use them for IDPA ( Blackhawk CQC- Kydex). All of the newer models I see at matches have the same kind of finish wear. It doesn't hinder the pistols action. It bugged me for a little while, then I got over it.

Shoot your G27 and enjoy it.

The new finish appeared around FXX-XXX--the metal treatment was so smooth that the finish appeared very glossy--I thought it looked ridiculous. This noticeably improved around GXX-XXX with coarser blasting. My HXX-XXX I picked up yesterday is even more matte--it's almost flat like the old finish and matches the frame texture closely.
