I've recently moved and in the process sold on of my revolvers. The money earned from that along with some other scratch put aside I am now at a crossroads. I'm looking at either a Series 70 Colt, Les Baer Custom Carry or a Glock 17. I know, very random, but hear me out. I own two very nice 1911A1s that will more than get the job done.
1) Always wanted a Colt, but know I will need to spend some extra cash to get things where I want them; i.e. trigger, sights and grips. I'm a sucker for a classic gun. 2) The Les Baer Custom Carry offers everything I would ever need in a 1911 with nothing I don't, but this will cost some extra cash too. 3) Glock 17: I know, very random, but it is the only 9mm I like and is a solid gun all around, but I don't own one. Any input is appreciated. I'm not looking to hear about Glock vs. 1911. I just want your honest opinion(s) and if others own one of these their thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. |
| I see you are in Hawaii, so carry considerations are out, and you are stuck with 10 round mags for the glock. For any significant amount of shooting especially considering the ammo supply and cost issues where you live, tells me one of your investments if you don't already should be reloading equipment. reloading costs for either 9mm or 45 are pretty much the same especially if you cast your own bullets. I'd stick with a 45. if you really want a glock I'd consider a 21 or a 30,at least you are not giving up more than 1/3 of your mag capacity to the law. The new series 70's have decent triggers and bigger sights than the old ones. As long as you are not one to get hammer bite, the tradtional style hammer and grip safe are fine (I feel I have average size hands and have never been bit.) I might suggest a les baer premier II it can do everyhing a 1911 needs to do in one package- yes it will cost you near 2k but you will be done. (unless you can find a used one-bought mine for a grand about 10 years ago and it has at least 50k thorugh it with no issues at all. |
| Thank you for your replies. I am no longer in Hawaii and recently moved to Oregon, so concealed carry and hi-cap mags are a non-issue. The Les Baer would be a great gun, but a huge chunk of cash for a gun that might be a little better than the two 1911s I own. I don't know I'm leaning towards the G17. Thank you again for your input. |
