I finally decided to replace my Browning High Power 9mm with the STI 2011 4.0 Tactical Light 9mm. After lubricating the STR lightly, I put 400 rounds through it. I used 7 different brands of ammunition in the following order:
50 rounds of Lawman Speer 124GR TMJ 50 rounds of Winchester 124GR FMJ 50 rounds of Federal Premium 98GR Frangible RHT 50 rounds of Blazer Brass 115GR FMJ 50 rounds of Geco 124GR FMJ 50 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 115GR FMJ 100 rounds of Fiocchi 115GR FMJ Once with the Winchester and twice with the Fiocchi I had the following identical failure: Approximately half way through the magazine, the STI would load a new round, but the slide got “stuck in motion” and did not complete the cycle. Do I have a problem? Do I need to send the 2011 4.0 Tactical Light back to STI? Please advise. |

Just as an aside, I have 2 COLT government models that I bought NIB that have about 1000 rds though each with not a single misfeed or malfunction. The ammo is a mixture of factory and hand loads as well as a mixture of quality and knock off magazines. (Yes, it is irrelevant. I just wanted to brag a little |

More than likely extractor too tight, not radiused/polished correctly, weak recoil spring.
Was the extractor around the rim, or behind it? Could be weak mag springs. Could ne a combination of all those things or more. There's some good 2011 guys here who will weigh in shortly. Sounds like you got a good one, welcome to 2011s.
