I am thinking of buying a Kimber Custom II or Royal. I used to have a Springfield Champion in a Parkerized finish that was a P.O.S. I would like to try the Milspec Operator but I am scared to go Springfield again. I do alot of canoeing and camping and my springfield rusted after 2 hours of exposure to Summer Kentucky heat, humidity and water. Would a Kimber do the same thing? I have a USP 9 that I know will take a beating and ask for seconds, but I would rather pack flying ashtrays. |

For any future responses; I know that steel can potentially rust and I have a full knowledge of the H&K product line. I just wanted to know if Kimbers have any kind of a hostile finish or protection. No gun should rust after 2 hours of being exposed. Maybe after two days of camping there might be a spot or two that will rub off. But my springfield was rust from top to bottom, all over. Took a major cleaning and rub down to fix. |
| I dont have any idea why or what it is, but I have seen a lot of the barrels on Kimbers get rusty pretty quickly. I promise you, some of them come from straight from Kimber with a little rust on the barrel right out of the box. We have to really keep after them. The rest of the gun seem to be fine, this problem we see is limited to the barrels only. But it is an issue. |
| Again, from what I have seen, it isnt the whole gun. Just the barrel. And yes to both questions, the Warrior and TLE barrels will rust as easily as the others, and we pretty much just deal with it by keeping an eye on them. I agree, I dont think they should be so prone to rust, but I dont see anyone at Kimber doing anything to change it after having heard about it. It didnt stop my or my GF from buying Warriors though. |
+1 I bought two TLE's a several months ago. I was so excited to find two brand new TLE's with IE, I bought them imediately. When i got home I noticed a large ammount of rust in the bores of both guns. I sent them back to Kimber and had them replaced at no charge. Haven't had any problems since. |

I have a TLE/RLII blued and havent had any issues with the frame and slide rusting. On my barrel I have noticed a small amount of rust from time to time. I've had the gun out in the rain, snow, heat and cold and the gun still runs with out issue. My particular Kimber has been owned by several ARFCOM members and I'm sure if you ask them they will say the same. |
| I have a warrior and it has seen plenty of snow and rain here in Portland. I shot it about 3 weeks ago and just took it apart to check for rust. Was kinda worried after reading your post. I'm happy to report that there was no rust and the barrel was clean as a whistle. |
Metal rusts, no matter how much you pay for it, unless you're willing to pay more for a finish that resists rust. OIL IT. |

It's funny how some guns have rust problems. Springfield XDs were notoriious for rusting on the slides, even in dry areas. As mentioned above, Kimbers have barrel rust issues. I've owned a NIB TLE, Warrior, and DET-1 pistol, and all three had rust on the hoods and end of the muzzle right out of the box. I recently refinished a Kimber Classic Custom, and when I bead blasted the barrel, I set itin a solvent tank for cleaning. Aftewards, I laid it on the bench to dry while I put the rest of the gun together. In the dry Phoenix heat, the barrel hood and muzzle end started to rust. It was amazing. |
mine rusts constantly,if i don't keep it WELL oiled. i'm thinking about getting it parkerized. |
Yeah, I posted that before I started to carry it concealed. |
So from the beginning of the thread to the end, we still have the fact that metal rusts. Glad to see Lumpy and I are on the same page. |
Have the barrel hard chromed. |
