Hi Guys,

I own a Kimber Custom II 1911. I got a Brownells catalog, and saw a number of Drop In magwells that said they require no fitting.

Is this true? Can anyone recommend a particular drop in magwell that would serve me well?

Thanks for the help.

Do you have one? How do you like it?

Thanks.

I have one with an arched MSH. Love it to death. It is much better than the factory one that comes with a SA TRP Operator.

I just ordered the Ed Brown mainspring housing / magwell this week. Will post a review on the part and the installation later this week.

Smith & Alexander.  Every one I've installed have gone in with no issues.

I can't say the same for the Ed Brown one that I ordered from Midway.  It was crooked and went back.

One from EGW and one from Fusion (both looked similar) fit easily in both a Kimber and a Les Baer.  I've been completely satisfied with them.

They're held in place by both a dovetail and a screw.  If the screw falls out, your magwell will still stay in place even if loose.  Some models that use a screw only run a risk of the magwell twisting if the screw loosens, potentially fouling your reload.  It's a minor point, but still worth considering.

+1 for Smith and Alexander.

It is the only brand I have used but it was a true drop in part.  It fit and looked great in a Springfield loaded.

Thanks guys. You pushed me over the edge. I purchased a Smith and Alexander mag well from Brownells. I also got the AR-15 bolt carbon scraper that I have been meaning to get.

Thanks again for all the input.
