You should be able to dry fire any modern firearm with no ill effects. Metallurgy has come a long way since the "don't dry fire" rule.

I concur.  Most modern centerfire weapons are safe to dry-fire, it's normally rimfire weapons that shouldn't be dry-fired (doing so can damage the breech/chamber of rimfire guns).  That said, if you use a "snap cap" (i.e., dummy round) in the chamber of either weapon type, you'll be good-to-go.  Think of the snap cap as extra cheap insurance against component damage.

FWIW, I use A-Zoom brand snap caps when dry-firing any of my guns.  These dummy rounds handle like real ammo, and also allow you to simulate the cycling of your gun and the feeding action of your magazines.  Checking for proper mechanical function of your weapon/mags is just as important as regular dry-fire trigger practice.
