| Not sure that this is the right location for this post so mods feel free to move or let me know where to put it. But in addition to your CC pistol, does anyone carry a tactical pen as a first line of non-lethal defense? If so what model/make is your choice? |

I have the UZI tactical pen. I don't carry it everyday, it's more of a back up when I'm headed to the VA, post office, or some other place that earns you bracelets for carrying a firearm.

But it is really cool and will redoubtably hurt like hell to be hit with. |

For me I think one of those tactical pens would be a last ditch resort- as in: theyve caught me off guard and im unable to retreive my weapon (for whatever reason) or my weapon has suffered a catastrophic failure and its now out of the equation. It'd be a "get off me" weapon. Im not going to let someone get up so close that the pen's effective range comes into play if I can help it. Im darn sure not going to let them in that close just so I can use a "less than lethal" method before pulling my firearm. At that range you are opening yourself up to a knife attack or having hands put on you.
For ME the flow of things would go like: Pepper spray>firearm>knife> tac pen>crenulated flashlight. A tac pen might be considered to be "less than lethal" but its still a weapon. If you need to bring a weapon into the fight youre already way into a bad situation. A face full of pepper spray or the muzzle of a pistol is going to do much more to effectively end the fight than an aluminum spike. Pepper spray would be a much better deterrent. |
