I cannot find the thread I started several months back. However, I was (pardon the pun) crowing over an incredible deal I got on a lifetime wish of a Colt Python. In the post I showed a half dozen pics of my new prize. One forum member pointed out that it appeared that one of my pics had the hammer cocked with a rounds in the cylinder. I assured the member that it was just the way the flash bounced off the pistol. I would never, ever, be so stupid as to cock a loaded revolver for a photo opportunity. I also stated that I would take a picture (hammer down!) with it loaded to show how this could be deceiving.

D@mn. I just could not believe it. It was loaded and I am the fool. Apologies and, hopefully, lesson learned.

Just glad you did not have a ND.

Hard lesson to learn.

good habit is to double/triple check when ever you are going to take pictures that the firearm is unloaded.

This is as far as i go to "loading them" in regards to picture taking:

Its a good habit to get into.. glad you didn't have a serious incident.

1) You didn't have a ND.
2) You (hopefully) learned from the mistake.

I recently picked up my G17 and went to check it even though I was sure it was clear as I'd been practicing reloads the night before. When a training dummy launched out the ejection port I almost had a heart attack.

ETA: Admitting you had a lapse in judgement is the hardest part, "It'll never happen to me" syndrome leads to a hole in walls/ceilings.

Many folks are injured and killed every year with "unloaded" weapons. I was the Arsenal Sergeant for many years - Range Master - Firearms Instructor - Yada Yada Yada..........you might be surprised how many times I come across "unloaded" weapons that somehow have become loaded mysteriously......Double check - Every time - Then check again.

Also, it takes a big man to admit his errors....good on you.

I had a friend who was on the Army shooting team . One day at his parents house he got out his new "unloaded" 1911 to show it to me and a friend . BOOM, it goes off ! Luckily the bullet went into the carpet and no one was hit .
Glad you're alright OP and lessoned learned .

Showed my cousin a Ruger Single Six I had purchased.  He liked the cowboy feel of it.  I opened the cylinder gate after he looked at it and to my surprise there was one 22lr round in one of the chambers.  How or why one round when no one has access except me and all but one is always stored unloaded?  I do not know, but was definitely feeling like a afterwards.  Always double triple quadruple check now even when I think I KNOW it's unloaded.
