I've been strip down cleaning my Springfield 1911A1s and ParaOrdnances for the past 5+ years without any real trouble.

My first disassembly and reassembly with a Kimber TLE I bought before shooting was even easier.

Ok, first 100 rounds through it, and time to clean.  I strip it, and clean it, and start to reasssemble, and I'll swear that I can't get the slide back on without it getting stuck.   If I happen to press on the back of the handle,  I'm almost certain to get the slide stuck and it'll refuse to go back on.

Ok,  I did the first reassembly without any trouble.  I would have thought the rest would have been 'cake'.  So what am I doing differently, and why is the Kimber different to reassemble from my Springfield?

Anyone else get 'stuck' on the slide reassembly to the frame?   What step am I missing to make this a smooth reassembly.

TLE I or TLE II?   If it is a TLE II then make sure the grip safety is not depressed.

If it's a TLE II, make sure that you don't depress the grip safety or invert the frame...both will cause the swartz safety lever to extend.  If it is the orginal TLE, I'm not sure what is causing the problem.

I believe we've found the cause here . . . .

(grip safety, and inverting)

nethole,

before you install the slide...grip the frame and depress the grip safety, you should be able to see the Swartz safety lever extend...this is what makes contact with the firing pin safety.  prior to assembly, make sure that the Swartz lever is flush with the frame, grip the frame under the grip safety to prevent engaging it.  if you try to force the slide on to the frame with the Swartz lever up you may break it or bend it which can cause all kinds of problems.  hope that helps.

I actually left a ding on the NIB TLE II by doing this ... The pin didn't bend but was enough to leave a ding.
