I just picked up a nice T-series BHP from the local funstore...

Other than the usual suspects (springs), what are some "Required" spares/replacements that I should get?

For instance, on a 1911, the first things I wind up buying on general principals are new C&S extractors, springs, and a thumb safety (either McCormick or Wilson thin pad)...

I ordered a C&S extended thumb safety for the BHP, but what else?

The trigger on it is pretty ok, but it could use some lightening up...how easy is it to remove the magazine disconnect safety on a BHP?

Thanks!

Removing the mag disconnect is the first “must do” IMO with a BHP. It will not lighten the trigger pull much but it should make a noticeable difference in the smoothness category. It’s pretty easy to do and there are instructions online on how to do it or get Stephen Camp’s Highpower disassembly guide for step by step instructions w/pics (Actually, his site has a lot of good info on it HiPowers and Handguns).

If you do pull the mag-disconnect, I would recommend an ext-power trigger return spring. The factory one can be pretty weak after removing the disconnect. You may also want to consider a heavier recoil spring (18.5#), especially if you plan to run a lot of +P ammo through it.

The above link for the safety removal has a lot of great info. Mr Camp is the running expert on the HP. There is a FAQ section you might want to look at.

Also, depending on the year of your T series, you might not want to to too much, the T series are starting to command a premium.

On mine I pulled the mag safety, stoned the sear and hammer just a bit, got a reduced power mainspring (hammer) and got an extra power recoil spring.

The sear work and lighter mainspring helped with the trigger pull a lot and the extra power recoil compensated for the light mainspring to keep the frame from getting battered.

The factory hammer bit the crap out of my hand so I relieved it some.

I would LOVE a T Series.  Congratulations!!  Very nice find.

I wouldn't do anything to it really.  Maybe up the recoil spring to an 18.5 and buy some mags.  That's about it.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a "T series"?

Classic Hi Power perfection.

Fit and finish is outstanding.  They are collectable these days.

When were they made and how can I tell what is a "T series" and what is not. Is it something with the serial number?

IIRC, they were made from 64-72.  Serial has a "T" prefix.
