I just read about guys seriously considering putting a gun in a ziplock bag on the bottom of the shower while showering. Sure you never know and all that good stuff but, seriously? You can't go 5 minutes or 5 feet from your piece? What do you do on Federal property, the mall, kid's school? If you are going to have one in the bathroom what about just leaving it on the counter wierdo? What mafioso do you owe money to anyway? Why get so cute with with where it goes? Lastly, I don't have kids yet but, I assume when I do the guns can't just lay around all over the place. Don't give me firearms awarness either small kids or your kids friend's mess with everything. |

I am armed or within reach of a firearm 99.99% of the time. I avoid places that prohibit my carrying of a pistol. You never know what is going to happen and its not like carrying a 2lb piece of metal/plastic is going to wear you out. Two instances recently have enforced this behavior in stone for me. A guy blasting a cop and security guard and then hiding out around my office for two days, while SWAT looked for him. Keep in mind I was standing outside having a smoke the night it happened. Alone and unarmed (prior to my CCW permit). To put it in perspective, the guy was found less than 100 yards from my office building. Was in the area the whole time and it wasn't until sun rise that morning before SWAT rolled in. Or the worst school shooting in recent history, which also happened within a couple hundred yards of where I worked. Small towns don't mean shit. If there other people around, you don't know what they are capable of or if/when they will snap. The above two instances are only the most recent incidents. I have seen/heard all sorts of people going nuts and randomly killing/hurting people. I carry everywhere I can. I avoid places I can't. If I was psychic I would just avoid the fight. Since I am not, I come prepared for a fight, everywhere, everyday. YMMV. |
| I avoid them too. I have one 99.9% percent as well. What causes that .01% though. Taking a shower? Getting out of bed to pee at night? At what level is it ridiculous? I mean my Glock will shoot wet, maybe I should carry it in a nylon shoulder holster while I'm washing my hair. |

I carry every where outside the house. There is one loaded firearm (some rooms two) in every room in my house. No I do not owe any mafiaosa money. However, doo doo occurs and I have had multiple death threats from people I have arrested or dealt with in jail/court. I have been doing it so long it is a habit. If it does not work for you don't do it. But don't criticize those who do. After all the libs think you are nuts if you have a gun in the house. |
If I have pants on, I have my pistol with me. So yes, showers are would be a place that I wouldn't be armed. But its only 6 feet to my bedroom, where there are plenty of weapons. Other than that, I really can't think of anytime I would go unarmed. Perhaps whenever I have to go to the Courthouse or other .gov building. But those are very very rare and I will find someone to go for me if I can. Bastards will give me a permit (Sherriff, Courthouse and Town Clerk are all in the same building), but won't let me carry around them. Figures. So to answer, at what level is it ridiculous, would be easiest answered by when it becomes completely impractical to carry. Like I said, a 2lb piece of metal/plastic is not very difficult thing to tote around. What is impractical for one person may be no big deal for you. Its a matter of preference, lifestyle, and location. |
| The mall and movie theaters around my home town have signs (No Firearms". I either don't go or I know some guys that carry anyway. I always keep a peaceful journey. Assistant Principle in Pearl MS had his gun in his truck. Stopped a student from killing more than he did. He caught some flak but never charged. HELLO he's a hero. |

First, about the shower gun, I live alone. So when I take a shower, all I hear is the loud rush of water through my old pipes. So if an intruder breaks in, beyond not even being able to hear him, he knows from the sound of the shower exactly where I am and he is most likely under the impression that I am naked and unarmed. In my opinion this is a bad guys dream. Second, didn't check where you live, but a mall is private property, the only place on private property where the LAW prohibits carry, open/concealed, is a place that serves alcoholic beverages for onsite consumption. A sign saying "no guns allowed" or whatever, is business policy, they can ask you to leave and claim trespassing if you don't, But IT IS NOT ILLEGAL! There are only 3 places you can NOT carry open or concealed BY LAW: Court houses (I personally don't carry in any federal building) Schools Places that sell alcohol for onsite consumption. Also I really do take offence to words like "weirdo" why go and insult people based on the placement of their firearm? Or how secure they like to feel? And I would bet my left testicle that no one here leaves there firearms anywhere near their children. The guys like me with firearms hidden about the house are usual single or without children. Next is your "You can't go 5 minutes or 5 feet from your piece?" You always hear the story of the guy who wears his seatbelt ALL the time. The ONE time he/she is in a hurry they forget and get in an accident. Or the guy who parks his expensive sports car in the garage, but one night parks on the street, next morning it's gone. My point is, you NEVER know when you may need it, and considering my life, liberty, and property are at stake, damn right my piece doesn't leave my side. The bottom line is this, is your life more important than a possible "silly" place to keep your gun? |
Sometimes I can't tell the difference, didn't mean to make a big fuss, I get carried away at times |
|
I feel bad for you guys who can't carry at schools. In Oregon our CCW law was written to forbid ALL government agencies (local, city, county, school, etc) from making rules regarding concealed carry. I'm about to take my son to his football game, I'm sure they will have a "no firearms" sign but it is unenforceable. The schools have actually been told by their lawyers that their signs are worthless and they can't make these policies. As for carrying a gun all the time... I also have my watch all the time or a clock in the room that I'm in. I just like to know what time it is and protect myself and my family. |

Well.........I stay the hell away from schools. And any other "criminal protection zone". Glad I can. I stay the hell out of federal or govt. buildings. Only there when I HAVE to be. No problem. No, my pistol's not IN the shower with me, but it's not far, either. The house is what it is. The shower is noisy. Think about it. If you don't have bars over the windows, and steel doors with reinforced door jambs/multiple high security locks, how long do you think it would take someone to get in.................10 secons, 30 seconds............that's just how it is. That happens.............."SLAM".......what the heck was that..........sounds..noises.........they're in the house, just like that. And now, that pistol, under your bed, in it's little safe box, seems like it's a mile away.......and might as well be. This is not outside the realm of possibility. Paranoid? You lock your doors, right? Paranoid? I would just say there's a fine line between paranoia and caution. I like the way Clint Smith says, "Paranoid? Why should I be paranoid? I have a gun." I, and many of us, just like bein' prepared. |

I carry most everywhere. When I get home and settle down for the night I place my CCW on my computer desk in my living room. I keep all my doors and windows locked and my dog tells me anytime somebody is outside. I pretty sure I will have have 1.5 seconds it will take to get to it. The only place I go I cant carry is court. I usually end up going to court about 1 or 2 times every month or two.......lately if that. I hate not carrying there, the place is crawling with dirtbags, however its also crawling with police and court security. |
You should not make blanket statements about laws. They can differ quite dramatically from state to state. |
You're right smart alek, I should memorize the statutes of every state in the country. And did you miss the comment where I told him "didn't check where you live". A troll came and pissed everyone off, I made valid arguments and you single me out? I didn't ask for your advice Seydou, so keep it to yourself. |
|
I carry when I can. Rght now I work construction, so having it with me is really more of a hassle than it's worth while I'm on the job. It stays in the glove box. Where it's illegal to carry, I avoid when I can. Out on the town with friends, running errands, on a date, etc, I'm armed. YMMV |
I don't expect you to memorize every law, but not posting misinformation would be a reasonable expectation. You posted "didn't check where you live" and then proceeded to post absolutes emphasized by caps. My post was meant to caution people to not assume anything and to check the laws where they live/carry, not to "single you out". Calm down. BTW in case you haven't noticed, this is a discussion forum and I do not need permission to give my opinion. Don't like it? Ignore it. |

Main places I'm not armed: 1. Work I work in a controlled-access building with 24-7 armed security, so I don't mind too much. The nature of my job also emphasizes security, in more ways than one. 2. Restaurants that serve alcohol It is illegal to carry anywhere that serves in OH. I do a lot less eating out now. Generally only for special occassions, and then the gun is locked up in the car, and goes right back on me afterwards (and no, I don't drink and carry). |
.........WHAT???????
