I'm researching slide stops to complete my blued over stainless project and I'm seeing controversy like never before.

One camp says they are the devil and the weight of the extension tips the seesaw the wrong way and my gun wont consistently hold open after last round.

Then other  knowledgeable people  say that its a must have for a fighting mans gun.

My "Killin Gun" (Very early series 1 Kimber) doesn't have one and I've never missed not having it.

Do I need one?

I can't live without one, I learned to shoot with the M9.

My 45 with the extended one has never prematurely locked back the slide in around 7000 rounds.

I use a thumbs forward grip. More than once I've activated the slide stop before the mag was dry.   Ditched the extended slide stop problem went away.  I have x-large hands.

I must confess I've never seen anyone I'd consider very knowledgable advocate one.

My big hands disagree with extended slide stops.
They tend to ride it, which leads to the gun not locking open on the last round.

Do not want for reasons already stated.

Wilson sells them. I think old Bill knows his way around a 1911.

I don't recall ever seeing one on any of Bill's pistols...offering a part is one thing, using another...

The extended slide stop is one part he's supposedly admitted that he won't use, but will sell because "people still want them."

OK I'm sold!

Now I need one!

Didn't someone around here have a pile of used ones for sale?

In one of his books, Wilson said that the only thing more worthless than an extended slide stop was an ambidextrous extended slide stop.

I have a book somewhere, in it Bill Wilson talks about making them for those that want them. But he himself never saw a need.

"Daddy? how do I look in this outfit?"

"You look great sweetheart, very cool"

I can't see how in the world you could have been sold on one of those pieces of crap based on this thread.

Look at the predominant advice  in this thread. (I bought in to what you were trying to tell me)

Or better yet let me rephrase it  for you.

OK my brothers. You have enlightened me, pulled the veil of ignorance from my eyes and set me down the path of righteousness.

Where might I obtain by trade or barter a battle tested example of this most basic of devices?

Did not one of ye recently proclaim ownership and express a desire to engage in commerce?

That's where I thought I saw where someone had a bunch of takeoffs but I don't see it any more.
