I am getting a glock 19 soon. I am interested in adding an extended slide release. I have never done it but I think I can without a problem. I have had a few other gun smithing ventures and various things of that nature.

Where do I get one? I checked the above links and couldn't find one anywhere. Maybe I wasn't looking under the right section?

Could someone give me a link to a decent slide extention?

You can get an extended slide stop lever from Glockmeister

Thanks. I searched that sight but I wasn't really sure what I was looking for.

You can also get the factory one at Lone Wolf item #GLO-7496

Save money and sling shot the slide on reloads.  Its a slide lock, not a slide release

Don't use anyone's but the factory extended stop.

let the guy run the gun the way he wants to.  One day he may be in a life or death situation and have his weak hand disabled he may have to run the gun dry and move to cover to reload.  He can hit the slide release tuck the pistol in his belt and load a mag and hit the slide with his thumb.  Sure he may be able to do the belt rear sight trick but maybe not.

An extended slide stop is just another tool.  If it’s not their then it can’t help to save your life and it won’t be any more or less reliable than any other quality part.

I would suggest the factory item only, and only after you have tested it on your gun with your loads and you shooting it. Don't let my experience or anyone else's make that decision for you. You might find as some have that their grip makes the slide stop engage prior to the mag being empty.

And as a Glock Instructor and Armorer, I agree with Lumpy, it's a slide stop, not a slide release.

+1

I don't think it adds much length to the slide lock to begin with and I've attended a few firearms classes and none of them advocated using the slide lock to release the slide after a mag change.

I like the extended release, but use the sling shot method for memory, rack clear tap release.

I use the "four fingers over the slide" method, but can attest that installing a slide STOP lever takes about five seconds.  You only need to move the trigger pin left-to-right, while jiggling the slide stop lever fore-and-aft just enough to remove the old lever.  Install the new lever, while again jiggling the new lever fore-and-aft, while pushing the pin right-to-left.

If you do decide to remove both the locking block and trigger pins, be sure and remove and replace the locking block pin first.

I use the extended slide release from Aro-Tek for both of my Glocks (G17 & G26).
I tried the factory ext. release and I just did not like the feel of the raised wing.

It is called an extended slide release.   I have one on my G26 from Aro-Tek and I couldn't be happier with it.  It makes it much easier to use, installs in under a minute, and works every bit as good as the factory part.

I had a problem with the Arotek extended slide lock.  When I shot it with hot ammo(like I carry in it), my thumb would touch it and cause it to lock the slide.  Not a good thing!!  I got rid of it and don't regret it.

I'd stay with factory.

Never heard it put that way, but definitely a good piece of advice.
