This FN57 was used during a recent carbine class and got its share of very fine dirt ground-in while shooting the rifle from unconventional positions. Despite the dirt it performed flawlessly during the transition drills and I shoot it faster & more accurately than any other handgun (with a TLR-1 it also serves nightstand duty in my home).

The pic is still there, don't know why you can't see it (drop me an email and I'll send it to you if you wish). And, yes, I'm a member at fnforum.net.

I was implying that the dirt/dust on the 5.7 "camouflaged" the gun into the carpet.

Pardon my ignorance.

But how do you carry the Five-seveN USG?

From my understanding it is basically a single action, striker fired pistol and the only safety is that oddly placed lever.

Is the trigger on them extra tough or something?

I considered getting one, but I know I would never get used to the placement of that manual safety and I don't know if it incorporates any other sort of passive safety.

I know, I know, finger off the trigger.

But still.

Also, do they still make the IOM? Wasn't that a double action only model?

Because that might be exactly what I'm looking for.

It is not striker fired.
If you've ever picked one up and handled it, you won't think that safety is in an odd place.

Hi,
1) I carry it Condition One w/the safety on in a Serpa holster (see pic).
2) Correct as to the type of action, trigger isn't "extra tough" or anything. At first I didn't care for the safety either but after a bit of practice it's now natural for me to flick the safety down & off w/the trigger finger immediately after the draw.
3) IOM was discontinued some time ago and now commands collector prices.

I don't worry about terminal effectiveness as I keep it stoked w/these:

The FiveseveN is a great weapon albeit now FN is advertising them as a woman's home defense weapon (because of the firepower and lack of recoil).

We're I more trusting that the blond wouldn't shoot my sorry ass with it, I'd let her borrow mine

Otherwise, its not my nightstand's first choice (or second) that goes to my G20 w/17 round mag and X300 or an HK USP Tactical .45 w/X400

It could make the rotation if I didn't have those two.

For carry, its light enough that I like it as a primary weapon. There's something cool about a rifle round in a pistol.

Factory ammo with less FPE than standard 9mm does not impress me.

Getting ammo from Elite or loading your own is the only way to get reasonable power out of it and the only thing holding be back from the $1000 pistol.

Now I just gotta get home and break in my AR57 upper...

Good to see it so dirty, I placed an order for both a Fiveseven and PS90 Christmas eve day as a present to myself.

Once I change agencies the Fiveseven will likely become my duty sidearm as they allow it and several officers are already using it. The energy it creates is similar to the lower scale of many 9mm and higher than .38 special I see no reason that it should not perform admirably, I believe this was sadly demonstrated at Fort Hood in November.

It's a good SHTF pistol. If SHTF you're either a one man show or darn near a one man show and the ability to carry 20 to 30 rounds in a single magazine is a nice option. That's incredible suppression on target and an ability to engage multiple bad guys without having to reload. The Fort Hood shooter likely would not have been able to get as many hits as he did if he had to pause more often to reload. The increased distance you can cover effectively with the 5.7x28mm give you great standoff ability as well.

For home defense or CCW carry though I'm not sold on it. If I need to put someone down quick in a short distance I need something with a bit more mass and larger continous wound cavity that you get with a good JHP in .40 S&W, .357 SIG, or .45 ACP.

Out in the open with distance a factor the 5.7x28mm shooter has the advantage. At close range inside buildings I think the traditional pistol caliber shooter has the advantage. Extended gun fight...5.7x28mm shooter has the advantage. Traditional pistol caliber shooter also has to have a lot more experience to match even a novice 5.7x28mm shooter as well for accuracy and accuracy is king.

Yesterday afternoon I received a phone call from my dealer that my order had arrived. I bought the Fiveseven and the TR-PS90, seven magazines for the Fiveseven and nine for the PS90 to obtain ten each. My dealer had two and one half cases of SS192 that I bought, the total price for everything was $4,100 which I believe was more than fair regarding current costs for these items. I cleaned them all yesterday evening and will take some practice today with the Fiveseven, I am deciding on a holster for it also whether to get a mounted light.

I will be inquiring about information for sights for the PS90 especially the Trijicon-rmr or possibly an ACOG with a 1.5x magnification.

I just bought one of these fantastic pistols last week and did an extensive test fire session with 197 ammo.  I know from the ballistics table and shooting preformance the 57 pistol will replace my USP 45 hands down. Wow, what a hand gun, smooth as silk purse and the accurate bullet hits at 25 and 75 feet were darm impressive.  The ammo did produce an extensive muzzle flash, but the slide operated real neat and cycle rate was fast and precise.   I dont know if the dealer i bought mine threw is full of bs but he told me the barrel had been updated to handle up to 30k barrel life.  The fixed sight package with a smaller front sight worked well, slightly improved over my friends older model with adj rear sights. the new sight package just appeared to more robust and less failure to break, just my opinion i guess.  Anyway with a few extra mags and a nice Blackhawk paddle holster with release button make he gun for a slick carry piece ready for any close encounters and easy field carry. good to go.
