The FNP 45 has managed to catch my eye. Anyone know anything about them? The good, the bad, the ugly? Pics? Thanks in advance. |
| i'm lookin at this too. i'd say do a search and see what you turn up, as theres a thread or two on the FNP's floatin around. orm what i've heard there've been fire control group parts breaking on the 9's and 40's between a certain serial number range. it seems to have stopped in the later serial #'s, and it seems the 45's don't have these issues. the FNP should have i think 14round magazines coming out for it "soon". rom the reviews i've read? its got a nice trigger- its big, but strangely ergonomic. its accuracy is comparable to that of a USP (according to a gun magazine though...so take it with a grain of salt). its a big pistol though. not exactly CCW material if you were wondering about that application. but it seems accurate, regonomical, good capacity, inexpensive, and from what it seems so far- reliable. and at around under 600 bucks? sounds like a good deal to me. |
| I love mine, it feels like a handgun should, I have small hands, I am 5'6 and it feels really good in my hands. It is a beefy frame, so as state CCW not ideal, but as a manly peice in a widely available caliber, it is great. Feels good w/ one hand or a weaver grip. Breaks down easy, highly recommended, totally under rated, I would buy again w/o a 2nd though. Mine will run reloads and CCI cheap aluminum casings, so it does shoot and cycle lower power loads....highly recommend. |

We have a few reviews of it at the Fn Forum... People seem to like it! fnforum.net/index.php |

Just some random thoughts here: They are coming out with a 15rnd mag. (IF not out already) Available in DA or DA/SA. Definitely has the "block" feel, but not uncomfortable. No bigger/blocky than a Glock 21. Removable backstrap, for different size hands. From the reports I've read it's very accurate, and eats all kinds of ammo. Here is FN's website You can find quite a bit of info. here And just for the record, if I had a 1911, the FNP45 would be my next HG purchase. |

All handguns are subjective to the user; BIG handguns are even moreso. The FNP-45 is big, but the circumference of the grip is smaller than the Glock 21SF with the flat backstrap in place. To me, the FNP-45 is a much finer weapon than the Glock 21SF. Not that the Glock is bad, but the FNP-45 is BAAAD. Good trigger pull, both DA and SA, similar to a SIG but heavier. To me, it's as if FNH took a Glock frame, fixed the goofy grip angle, put in a very good DA/SA trigger, and added a SIG barrel and slide. The first time I fired it at the range, my first five shots went into one ragged hole at 5 yards. My G21SF couldn't do that on its best day. As expected, both the FN and the Glock are 100% reliable. The FN wins on controllability, at least with my medium-size hands. Link to another thread with some good pics: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=53&t=55291&page=1 |
Check out the USG model. I thinks it's scheduled to be realesed in the next month or so. |

I own an FNP45 and love it. Very accurate with all ammo types, and more comfortable in the hand than the Glock 21 SF. Even with my smallish hands. Changing from the curved to the flat backstrap made all the difference. The trigger is much smoother after a couple hundred rounds too. I have yet to see any serious complaints from those that have one, only supposition from those that don't and fan boys of other makes. |
I have a complaint.......... The de-cocker is in the same place a thumb saftey should be so you think you are going to push up for safe and it doesn't budge but push down for de-cock that is a big -1 in my book |

How anyone can complain about the decocking lever, knowing that it is in fact a decocker and not a safety, is beyond me. The pistol is a SA/DA Decocker. It is not advertised or sold as anything but that. If you cannot adapt to that then heaven forbid that some other bit of your tactical dicta might change on you in the real world and you cannot adapt to the change. As to the grip. Never held an XD 45 at the same time as an FNP45. You can't really compare it to a 1911 now can you? The 1911 is a single stack, low cap pistol. The FNP45 clearly is not. If you are a 1911 fan you are not serious abut the FNP45 anyway, yes? |
| I purchased my FNP-45 last weekend and I couldn't be happier with this pistol. It is not a CCW pistol by any means. However, it has a great SA/DA trigger, the grip angle is superb with the flat backstrap, it is well balanced, you get 3-14 round magazines and a beautiful case. My only slight disappointment, yes I said slight disappointment, is that the pistol case is so large that I can't fit it into my safe. |
|
It's a lot smaller in real life than I imagined it based on pictures. It is wider than I thought it would be though. I found the grip uncomfortable, with my hand constantly trying to find a comfortable position on the front strap. Even with the best fitting back strap I still looked like a bumbling idiot doing quick waste draws. I won't be buying one. |
