| Just picked one up today. The slide release is the only feature I'll have to get used to. Anyone have any options to beef up it's profile or should I just man up and start working on my thumb callus. |

Man up..... but, not sure if you know this or not, you are supposed to pull back on the slide, rather than use the slide release, on pretty much ANY pistol. It saves on wear and tear, gives the slide just a little extra room to get moving, to ensure the round is seated, and is a hell of a lot easier on the thumbs. Just my .02 |

You ain't kidding. When I bought mine it was also a concern that I had. Take a look at where the lever engages the slide.Mine doesn't work the same on both the left and right sides. The right side works fine but the left will not release the slide. With closer examination I found the release lever is biased in that it catches the slide first on the right side. With the flex that occurs in the wishbone shaped lever assy. one can't release the slide with the opposite side. Mine catches first on the left hence the right side won't release the slide. The same side that the salesman tried to use. At least this is how my firearm behaves. Yours may be different. I know I would be disappointed if I were a lefty. |

The newer FN manuals call it the "slide lock", not the "slide release". It is not intended for closing the slide into battery, but rather to lock it back. Stop thinking model 1911. True but look at the first sentence in the "Slide lock" section. "When using the ambidextrous slide release......" Seems somewhat ambiguous. My manual also notes that there is no external safety when in fact there is. I wasn't impressed with the manual. I think they need to do a little editing. |
