Are the FNP 45 slides forged? I know on there website it says the barrel is hammer forged.

Just currious, does anyone know?
How would you find out?

They are CNC made out of a solid piece of steel.

If you ever find yourself in SC I recommend you try to get a tour of the factory.  I know one of the guys that makes the FNP slide, there are only two that I know of.  The machinist are great the machines are top notch.  FN makes top products.

What kind of machines are they using being top notch?  Just curious.

I'm not a machinist but thier are a magnitude of machines there from older 1940ish swazey lathes, to large (like room size) CNC that run off CAD templates.  They keep all the tools very sharp with several tooling shops in the factory.

The barrel making machine is the most impressive of the bunch IMO.

It is a huge round press, they insert a piece of steel it streches leanthens shapes and rifles the bore in one operation using hydralics and steel rollers.  All the barrels are made on one machine from M-240 barrels to the FNP-45.

When iwas there they were only producing the FNP-9 & 40 in Columbia the 45 was a prototype.

How do I go about getting a tour?

I have been wanting to go on a road trip when I get back from Iraq this summer, and this sounds like a fun place to go to.

I talked to a guy who works there. He said that hammer forged barrel is worth more than the rest of the gun on the FNP45. Key to it's noticeable accuracy.

I'll add that besides the accuracy (mine beats the tar out of my Glock 21SF), the machining inside the slide is impeccable.  It looks like the final project of a master gunsmith working to get his certification.

Not a tool mark in sight on my FNP-40 or FNP-45.

Beautiful machining throughout.
