As the title says, is the FNS still having the trigger locking issue or have they fixed it? It seems like a heavier spring would likely do the trick...
For reference, this is what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AicVIt_PNLQ |

Mine was purchased in July and if I manually push the trigger forward (after the gun is empty, dropping the slide, then pulling the trigger), it will lock like in the video.
I've been using dummy rounds to simulate jams and practicing tap/rack and I have been unable to get the gun to lock up during malfunction clearing. Now, if for some reason, the gun is empty, the slide is down and for some reason i pulled the trigger then smack the gun's barrel into something, it will do what it did in the video and lock up. the chances of me doing that is ???? so as far as i am concerned, the gun works fine. for me. ––- i've put over 3k rounds through the gun so far and have had no issues. |

a muzzle strike will brick it if the chamber is empty, slide is down and you've pulled the trigger.
normally, if i leave the gun empty (very rarely), i would drop the slide, but i wouldn't pull the trigger. how one would get it into that condition (chamber empty, slide down, trigger pulled) during the course of fire or malfunction clearing, i don't know. or why you would strike somebody with the muzzle when the gun is empty? now, i've hit people before with my pistol, i usually use the grip and hit them with the bottom of the mag/magwell. i don't normally push my gun into people unless i'm doing a contact shot and with a round in the chamber, i'm not going to brick it. |

Just another range report. Took my son (he just turned 21) to the range yesterday and we put another 1,000 rounds through the FNS-9. I also let him put a few hundred rounds through my gen4 Glock 31 and my ancient gen2 Glock 19. I didn't know they raised the rates at the public range. They still discounted it for me, but man, I am so spoiled by having 24 hr access to a range at work. I just wish they would allow us to bring family. I went to a farm a few weeks ago for a class and the guy owns over 100 acres and has a nice outdoor range setup with steel targets, moving targets, cars you can shoot up, etc. That was a good day.
Both 9mms worked flawlessly and whatever grittiness in the take up of the FNS is long gone. It's smooth now. Only issues were a few brass to the face with the gen4 Glock 31. And only during very rapid fire. Double taps were ok, but any faster and we started getting BTF. So even though Glock says it's a problem with the 9mm versions, it's showing up on the 357 version as well. Not as bad, but it's there. We didn't have any malfunctions with the FNS, but I brought some snap caps and simulated some malfunctions for him and he cleared them ok (nothing like watching your son go click, tap rack bang and continue firing, makes one proud since his fellow officers will go click, stop and look at you for direction). Now, the checkering on the grip does start to bite after awhile, but it's not normal for most to shoot this much in one sitting. My thumb usually starts to give out after loading mags over and over. He asked if he could have either the FNS or the Glock 19. I told him to go get his head check, I'm not giving up my guns, but I will buy him one. I'm not going to get a gen4 19, that much I know. But I am waiting to see if FN releases the FNS-9 compact soon. I might pick one of those up and see which I like better, the full-size or compact and gift him the other one. overall, very happy with the FNS-9. Got it for $450 shipped with 3 mags and night sights out the door (bought it from guy in Texas and my FFL did not charge me to transfer it). A new Glock with no night sights would run me $397.20 + tax, then I'd spend about $100 on night sights (all my Glocks have Ameriglo Pro night sight setups), so the FNS-9 was a good deal. Extra mags were around $40 which cost more than Glock mags, but less than HK mags. I miss the old days of mags for less than $20. I remember buying a few dozen Glock mags for $14 each back in the day and HK mags were $33. by the way plouffedaddy, just watched your vid on the claymore. you've convinced me to get one for my PSA 10.5" upper once my tax stamp gets back. Hopefully next month. ok, post is all over the place, haven't slept in awhile, better get some sleep now. –– dang iphone autocorrect. |
