Manual safety is optional.

It's got the best striker fired trigger I've ever felt.  Very nice design.

I loved the FNX BUT they have to change the mags on them. Those things eat magazines like candy with how they are setup now. Please now for the love of god get better mags and this will be the best pistol ever.

My FNX didn't eat mags up, then again I only shot about 500rds through it

Mine did. The little piece of shit tab on the front of the mag always gets bent or burred making it get stuck in the gun or not even locking in it.

I will try to answer what I can...what'cha got?  I will say that the pistols we've been using on the Team are pre-production prototypes and that there will be some subtle ergonomic changes to the production models.  Nothing major, just minor tweaks based on experiences and recommendations from the shooting Team.  The pistols have so far been outstanding with respect to reliability and durability.  We've been using them all season for practice and matches and each of us have several thousands of rounds on the pistols and they've been perfect so far.  Most of the Team is using the 9mm's but one of the guys has a 40, but I haven't heard anything about the 40 so far.

So do you have magazine problems?

None so far other than the 17rd. is very difficult to load due to spring tension.  What magazine problems have you had?

Plans for a CA compliant model? Magazine compatibility with the FNP series? Price? Brand of night sights being used? [Which by the way I think is awesome they are planning to make night sights standard]

[#12]
Don't really know about the CA compliant model?  What would it need other than 10rd. mags and CDOJ approval?

At this point I can say that there is interchangeability between the FNX and FNS magazines as I'm using mags from both pistols with no problem.  Not sure about the final production version.  There is some talk about making some magazine revisions that would increase magazine capacity to 19rds.  I'm not sure if this will cause compatability issues with the FNX version.

There will be night sights on the production version, but don't know what make or model of sights they will use.  All our pistols have fiber-optic front sights at the moment.

Shiny. And if I remember right, to get a CA compliant pistol now you have to have a magazine disconnect, in addition to the previous requirements.

I put a few thousand rounds through my FNX before I sold it. Only complaint I had was the little metal tab on the front of the magazine. It would get bent or a bur and the magazine wouldnt seat properly. Better yet was when you couldnt get the damn thing out.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about a magazine disconnect, but that doesn't mean they aren't working on one.  As of today, don't think it will have one.

I will take another look at the magazines for the metal tab and play around with it.  I may sacrifice a mag and crush the tab to see what happens.  I will get back to you on that one.

A .45?  There will be a 45 coming at some point and I too eagerly await it.  A striker-fired, high-cap 45, with a small grip will be awesome!

I don't understand it either.  You have the penalty of having to retain the safety on the standard so that it serves as the decocker, may as well have the added benefit of being able to do what Strongbow mentioned. It's not like the entire line can't emulate the standard model EXACTLY.   Either way you're stuck with that safety lever so if it serves two functions rather than the one, it makes little difference. Just run it how you see fit.

I get it, I get it. I'll stop derailing the thread with repeating rather verbosely what you've already said so succinctly.

Back on the FNS, I think FN has a winner with this one. I was planning an FNX to replace my USPc as my carry pistol but I think I'll hold off until the FNS is released and hope that it isn't priced too different. Looks like the better carry option compared to the FNX.
Thanks for posting the video.

As USSA-1 mentioned...I had trouble seating fully loaded 17 round mags. I should have just went to 16, but my brain switched off.
I got my blood on it.
Manual safety is a little undersized, hopefully that will be fixed. I have no problems with manual safeties of the thumb variety, but I didn't use it because of the size. If I were to buy it, I'd opt for the option to leave it out. I can do SA with safety, and I can do Glock-style. I understand them both, like them both, but I don't need them both at the same time.
The slide release is placed to reach with firing hand...at least, for me. Which caused me to block slide from locking back sometimes, had to work past that....used to coming up and hitting with my left thumb, which I was able to do for emergency reloads. I like the setup, just had to get my firing hand out of the zone.

Texture on frame is aggressive in all the right places. Loved the grip. Facilitated for high grip with it's beavertail (is that what it's still called on polymer frames?) I did get frame-cuts on my hand, but that's probably me doing something wrong. Handles very well.

Had black on black sights except for fiber optic in the front sight, which fell out....probably again due to my stupidity.

G19-sized with a 17 round mag. Not bad. Mags have plenty of purchase to work reloads and malfunctions with.
Trigger....take-up is longish, not DA long, but not 1911 short, but smooth and deliberate. Reset is SWEET and SHORT and AFFIRMATIVE.

Did not like ambi-mag release...again, this is just me, I'm old school 1911/Hi Power steel type. I kept dropping mags with my firing hand high grip. Something else to work past if it were my own pistol.

Umm...can't think of anything else right now. I'm very tired and have to get back to my midterms. Maybe more pictures later...

Peace.

EDIT: I got really used to it on my hip too. If I can't get my Hi Power sorted out.....I'll definitely look into the FNS when it comes out.

I mean...I had a G23 in my hand the night before the class and the size was the same to me as far as grip and barrel length. Certainly handled like a compact and not a full-size. But I'm no expert, so I wouldn't count on me.

The current FNS is comparable to the G19.  I will try to get some side by side pics, but they are essentially the same size.

Anyone given thought to a tab style magazine release like the HK pistols and some of the Walther's have? I wish more options were available with that style mag release.

No, the are no plans for a tab-style magazine button, but the current teardrop shape is going to be modified slightly.  As you saw in the video, depending upon the size of your hands and how you grip the gun, the current magazine button can be inadvertantly actived during recoil.  FNH is going to slightly redesign the off-side button to reduce the likelyhood of inadvertant activation.  The button will still be ambi and it will be reversable for lefthanders.

I thought the FNX was the best thing since sliced bread tell I had the mag problems. I find it hard to belive they are going to change the mags now.

The magazine design is not set in stone.  FNH is currently redesigning the magazine to increase capacity and to standardize the 9mm & 40 S&W magazine bodies, so changing the magazine engagement method is not out of the question.  I'm going to PM you my phone #.  Give me a call at your convenience.  I want to hear exactly what happend with your magazines so I can replicate the design flaw and pass is along to the FNH engineers.
