Ive put about 750 rounds down my FNX9 so far and am experiencing some issues with the mag release.

I shoot right handed and activate the mag release with my right middle finger, just like on my USPc. However, most of the time when I use this technique the mag sticks in the mag well after sliding down ~1/4 inch. It seems like i may be mashing the mag release to hard and pushing the mag into the side or back of the mag well with the mag release.

If i only hit the mag release lightly, the mag drops free most of the time. If i use my right thumb on the left side mag release, it works every time. I am unwilling to use the release this way with my thumb because i dont want to use two different motions to drop mags on my FNX and USP.

Is this just a training issue for me (get the pressure just right), or is something screwy with my mag release? is this a common issue? Is there a simple fix?

Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

Don't know that I can help you.  I have never had a mag drop issue with my FNX-9.  I hit the release with my right thumb (shooting right handed) FWIW

I just checked it out with my FNX that i have about 3000 rounds through and tried it with the mags that came with the gun as well as some brand new mags that i just got last week. The old mags pop right out and the new ones seem to stick if i mash the right side release like you describe. My guess is that because of the way the release is shaped on the mag itself, there's some break in thats required for them to really drop free.

I also noticed that if i used my left hand thumb, the problem didn't occur nearly as much. The mag release was really designed as a thumb actuated button, and you get considerably more leverage if you use your middle finger.

Long story short, If you put more rounds through the mags (or just insert and drop them a lot) you should see the problem fade away, but you may also wanna work on not putting as much pressure with your middle finger.

Hope that helps.

I am coming to the conclusion as well that i simply need to practice using less force on the mag release. if i press from the rearward portion of the release instead of the front portion, that helps as well.

ill keep working at it, i THINK this is a hardware problem i can train around.

thanks all! any other thoughts are still appreciated.
