Well so far I have loved my PM9. About 500 rounds with no jams and accurate for it's small size. I have only fired WWB FMJs and Gold Dots through it.
Today I thought I might try some Federal Hydrashoks and despite a quick rack of the slide, the first round snags on the feed ramp and will not chamber a round. It happens every time. If I try to load with a 5 round magazine it's fine. I also tried some Ranger-Ts and they feed with no problems. Very smooth. I thought about it, and sometimes the first round of the Gold Dots snags for half a second but always chambers, not as smooth as the Ranger-Ts though. I've read online a bit and some say the small size and tight tolerance of the PM9 can make it finicky on certain ammo types so find one that works, others have not had any problems and say send it back to Kahr. Have any of you seen similar problems with certain defensive ammo in the PM9? My confidence has been shaken. Thanks. |
| Mine has the same issue with all ammo unless I quickly rack the slide or use the lever, and It had 2 FTF's when +1'd. I purchased it used with "about 300rd's though it" and I've put about 200 though it. I've heard it was a mag issue on youtube here. Im guessing I may want to call kahr but to they cover used pistols? |

Not all guns "like" all ammo.
It's entirely common to find a gun that chokes on a certain brand or type of ammo, and another gun of the same brand and model that shoots it great. This is like the old joke about the guy who tells the doctor "It hurts when I do this". The doc says" Well, don't do that". In this case, just don't use that ammo. There's plenty of very good defense ammo out there that you don't need to waste time trying to force a gun to shoot something it clearly doesn't like. The idea is to experiment with various ammunition until you find one that's totally reliable then just shoot that. You have to be "ammo ruthless". No matter what you want to use, if it isn't reliable you have to discard it and find something else. Too many people just decide "I'm GOING to use this ammo, and this gun will use it or else". The only thing that really counts in a real defense gun is reliability. Accuracy doesn't matter, type of ammo doesn't matter. What matters is that when you pull the trigger the gun fires reliably. If the gun is super accurate with ammo everyone says is the best availabll stopper but isn't totally reliable, it's not a defense gun, it's nothing but a range toy. |

922argh:
The owner's manual clearly says to load the Kahr pistols by using the slide stop. Many people have trouble with trying to "sling shot" the slide, and refuse to accept Kahr's word about it. Things you can do is give the gun and magazines a good cleaning and lube. Often it's nothing more than hidden fouling left from the previous owner or improper or dried up lube. Since you have no idea how many rounds the gun has fired, just on GP's you might want to order a new recoil spring from Kahr. Use ONLY standard factory weight springs. Often people install stronger springs hoping that will make the gun work "better" or prevent wear. These micro-guns are operating right on the edge of what's possible and they really need the weight springs they were designed and engineered to work with. Full sized guns are more forgiving about spring weight, but the tiny one's aren't. In the case of sending it back, Kahr often has no idea who the original owner is. If you just want to have it checked out, contact them to ask about sending it in. The cost to ship is high due to UPS or Fed-Ex rules, so I'd try cleaning and lubing and other ammo first. |
