Hey guys... does anyone know of a good "Firearms Basics" website that gives new shooters something to study to become familair with firearms over all?  Maybe something with a course of study?

Visit the NRA website. I'm sure they will have something helpful.

It's not a "basic" page, but this page gives some great shooting tips.

Thanks Bob... I know AR15.com rocks, but im teaching my wife and daughter to shoot, so I thought there was maybe a good website that had all the basics laid out in a course-like design with photos, and illustrations... thought it would be a good suppliment they they can do on their own.

For practical handguns this is a gotta have.  Practical Shooting - Beyond Fundamentals by Brian Enos    His web site is also informative with forums concentrating on handgunning from stage questions to how to hold a pistol.    Brianenos.com I think.  Book sold there too.  Take my advice and get the book.

www.brianenos.com  or 1-877-219-5598  the web site is full of good info
the book may seem a bit zen like at first
read it and then re read it
if you read it enough you can find all the answers
I'll bet a steak dinner that you'll thank me later

good luck

Hey Bear, before you do anything have them know all the firearms safety rules.

Mr FrankSquid has kindly posted them here

The Four Rules of Firearms Handling
by Jeff Cooper

Rule 1
ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
The only exception to this occurs when you have a firearm in your hands and you have personally unloaded it for checking. As soon as you put it down, Rule 1 applies again.

Rule 2
NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY
You may not wish to destroy it, but you must be clear in your mind that you are quite ready to if you let that muzzle cover the target. To allow a firearm to point at another human being is a deadly threat, and should always be treated as such.

Rule 3
KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
This we call the Golden Rule because its violation is responsible for about 80 percent of the firearms disasters we read about.

Rule 4
BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
You never shoot at anything until you have positively identified it. You never fire at a shadow, or a sound, or a suspected presence. You shoot only when you know absolutely what you are shooting at and what is beyond it.

One piece of advice I would offer anyone who is teaching a loved one to shoot is start off with a .22 and let them decide when they want to move up in power.
