I just bought a Firestar 9mm from an FFL friend of mine. I love the way it feels, and I like the weight.
I've done some research on the net, sometimes that's a bad thing, and most everything I 've read has been positive.
I'd like REAL opinions from owners/past owners.
I've never owned a 9 before, I've always been .44's and .45's and 1911's. But I picked this thing up at a funshow my friend was setup at and that was it, I had to have it. Besides, 9mm is so cheap these days, I can bang away and have some fun with it. Add to that the fact that some of the new defence loads for 9 are nasty, and you have a pretty good little carry gun.
This one has seen some use, but has been well taken care of, and is in the Starvel finish, which I really like. Came with two extra mags.
Also, since the little jewel is more than 20 years old and the holster makers don't list it in their size charts, what are Firestar owners using for holsters?
I'm a lefty, and like pancakes. Although I've never owned a nylon holster, I'm beginning to have an open mind about the advantages in the Texas heat. I think the Starvel finish would hold up better than blue in nylon. Opinions?
Oh, BTW,  MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Thanks, Mike

You made a good buy.  The Firestar is a solid gun.  A very well respected gun sage who operates a very successful pawn shop loves those Spanish guns.

Is this it?

I stupidly sold my Star Megastar in 45 acp:

Still looking to replace it with the 10mm version.  No recoil at all.  A dream to shoot.

Your Firestar should handle the same way.

You might have to rock a universal small/medium IWB holster.

You done good

Merry Christmas Mike!

Mine, actually my wife’s, is a .40 S&W in Starvel finish.

Bought in 1992.

Size, feel, reliability... Just can't beat it!

I have a Firestar 45.  The trigger is a little on the mushy side, but other that than, I like it.

Great gun.
Just be sure to be careful when putting it back together after cleaning or this may happen.

That's it exactly!! Mine is just about that clean too. One of the best feeling autos I've ever handled. Can't wait to bang away with it. Still surfing for nylon holsters. I want a good one, but what I'm finding looks kind of cheezy on the net. Merry Christmas, all. Mike

I have a friend OCONUS who has one in 9mm he shoots the snot out of...it just keeps working...no fuss, no drama...a solid little pistol that'll feed pretty much anything given good mags and some maintenence. Grab factory mags when and where you can, ditto for any parts such as extractors you may run across as they ain't making them any more. Good buy!

Uncle Mike's has a medium frame nylon pancake style holster that is generic and should fit the Star.  Uncle Mike's also has a belt slide model which puts the butt of the pistol closer to your belt.  For those of us with short torsos they are easier to draw from than a higher riding holster.  Uncle Mikes also makes a belt holster with a safety strap which rides lower but is not a concealment holster and more of a range holster.    As you can tell I've used uncle Mike's holsters.  They are readily available reasonable priced durable holsters.  Blackhawk may also have a generic holster that will fit medium frame autos.

I owned a silver/chromed/starvel .45acp version...traded it off for some reason or other...but it wasn't because it was a POS...seems like I actually wanted a 9mm M43...but never found one.

It was a helluva lot better gun than a 'Laser-Aim' .45 I owned..

Firestar's are good guns. Bersa are good too.

Firestars are really underrated and good compact guns. They are all steel, no MIM and the controls function like 1911, so if you are trained on a 1911 this is meat and taters to you. With a tuned trigger they are as accurate as similar guns costing two or three times as much. I have 3 each (9mm, .40 S&W and .45 acp). All sport the Starvel finish and are just dang good looking guns. Never have had a function issue with any of these guns. Being all steel they are a bit heavy and if I was to talk bad about one that would be my only issue. Enjoy shooting the new M-43!

If you want a 45 acp or 10mm full sized gun, the Star Megastars are some of the best engineered guns.

I miss my 45 acp Megastar and would love a 10mm version:

Did know that the 10mm Megastar was Star's answer to the 1983 FBI Miami shootout that caused the birth of the Norma 10mm round.

Compact firstar .45 was the biggest POS i ever bought. First time at the range the thing literaly fell apart in my hand after 2 mags. The rear sight came loose with the first mag and then the slide realease walked out. Yes, it walked out of the slide and after retrying, trying to fix, it again it still fell out. I dumped it right after that and took a major loss on it.

I had a bersa 383 that was a great pistol and I shot the crap out that thing with no issues. Traded it to my dad for a cheap set of golf glubs he had and he still shoots the bersa.

Sounds like the gun was a bucket of parts that should not have passed your shooting inspection.

I ALWAYS require shooting two to three magazines out of used guns before I buy them.

I had the .45 version years ago, nothing wrong with it, just kind of heavy for what it was. I have a Star Ultrastar in 9mm, not a bad pistol, just doesn't get out of the safe very often anymore.
