I bought a Wilson Combat "factory plus" firing pin for my SAI Mil-Spec, and it doesn't fit. I don't have the factory firing pin anymore, long story I'll post later.

But the Wilson firing pin is much too large to fit the hold in the bolt face. Should I order a 9mm firing pin? I checked both my SAIs, they both have the same size firing pins.

you need a .38 super firing pin in your SA iirc.

As a five time owner of SA 1911s of various calibers & sizes, I have heard this for years now. Can anyone tell me WHY Springfield didn't put the same FP in a .45 as virtually every other single 1911 maker out there?????

I don't see an engineering benefit for doing this, but I'm by no means any sort of gun builder or pretend to be.

To reduce the likelihood of discharging if dropped, without the need for a Series 80 type firing pin safety, SA decided to put the lighter 9mm/.38S firing pin in their .45's.

That's the only reason.
