Went to the funshow yesterday and grabbed one of the Rock Island GI 1911's for 400 OTD.
Its simple, plain, and its my first 1911, I can't wait to get it to the range 
Any body else have one of these? What do you think of them for a basic model? One thing is for sure, I'm replacing the grips on it

Had the chance to run about 60 rounds through it, no problems of any kind so far
Accuracy was great, dismal compared to a seasoned shooter but for someone who doesn't get to practice as often as I would like, I thought I shot very well. Shot a little low and pretty much obliterated the bottom of the x ring, and then the 9 and 8 ring in a small circle just below the bullseye haha |

I like them too, they feel pretty solid for such a cheap little pistol. If I had less than $500 to spend on a new 1911 the RIA is what I'd get. I agree. While my 1911s are SIGS, at more than twice the price, Big R locally has RIA 1911s for $350. That's a good price for a decent, low cost pistol that works well as a starting point for upgrades. And from what I've read, they're well thought of by those who have them. |
