Hey, I have been wanting a 1911 for about a year and may be buying one in the very near future. I love the Colt 01070XSE. It is a Government model 1911 in stainless steel with wood grips. My LGS has one for $1070 + tax. I want this style (Government model, stainless, and wood grips). I am pretty much dead set on the Colt because of their reputation and the quality of my LE6920. My question is this the best Colt 1911 for the money and is this a decent price? Are there any other Colt models that could be better? I am not a fan of the 1991 series. Also, what should I know as far as 1911s go in terms of maintenance and general issues? Thanks.

the Colt 70 is a very good choice....I think it is the quintessential Colt 1911 and would be an excellent first choice and if you decide to have it worked on i wouldbe an excellent base gun

I own 4 Colt 1911s and there is nothing wrong with the 1070XSE.  Solid gun.

I like the XSE.   I think you should buy it.

Your other Colt options would be:

Colt Railgun - pretty much same thing with a light rail.  not everyones' cup of tea.  About $1200

Colt Gold Cup - It's a target pistol.  Probably wouldn't want to carry one.  About $1300

Colt Special Combat Government - Colt custom shop gun.  Very expensive.  Not really a lot more features for the $$$, but Colt nuts like them and they are solid.

I think the CCG (Concealed Carry Gov't) is a great buy in that price range.  Fiber optic front, slim grips, no front cocking serrations.

Mine has the best-fit barrel of the 20-some Colts I've owned.   First range trip, 25 yards, offhand:

Thanks for the answers. I am going to go with the 01070XSE in Stainless Steel. A shop closer to my house can order one for $1,045 + tax. So I am going to put a deposit down and it should be ready to be picked up next Tuesday.
