Went in to look at a M9 ended up walking out with a used 92FS for 425$.

just need to get some more hi-cap mags.  15rds or 17rds?  Which are better.  Do the 17s sit the same flush as the 15s?  Thanks.

The Beretta and Mec-Gar mags are the best functioning.

the 17's work fine.
The fit isn't perfect on the 90-two but it fits better on a 92FS.
Sorry no pic of it on a 92FS

I love these threads.

Over half of my "15 round" magazines can hold 16 rounds.  Sportsman's Guide has 15 round mags for pretty cheap.  Your nearest surplus store might have some as well.

A 92FS Vertec is my first and only handgun, I absolutely love it!

I recommend Mec-Gar mags, i got a 17rd and a +2 adapter and it fits and functions perfectly. I ordered it from here:

A buddy and I just picked up matching 92FS's today at a local show. We were told they were police trade ins. Internally they show little wear. Came as is with one 15 round mag. $320 OTD. Can't beat that. He had four, we took the nicest two. Its not my first 92, but currently my only. :)

And I am the buddy that got the other bargain at the show. Here is mine with some pictures of the rails.  Mine looks to have been fired very little.

Good deal, because that thing looks from the outside like it was barely used.

I took my Vertec out on the town yesterday and put about 350 rounds through it, being the second time ive been able to shoot it since i picked it up in January.

I think its break in period is officially over, after I picked it up new out of the box its had about 500 rounds shot through it without a single malfunction of any kind no matter what i do to it.

Out of the 5 guns i own its hands down the most reliable and i can safely say the only one i wouldent think twice about trusting my life with if it came down to it.

Bought my 92FS in 1991 and never shot it until last year! It still looks as good as the day I bought it. The only thing different now is the Crimson Trace laser grips.hy.gif

what kind of offhand accuracy are you guys getting at 25yds?  If I use a Full Size Silhouette target, I hit it with every round I shoot, but it is all over.  Is this normal or is there something I can do to tighten up the accuracy?  Maybe a new barrel?

I can punch holes side by side with my 92FS if I take careful aim & fire, while a less experienced friend will shoot the same pistol and place shots all over the paper.

So I would say it probably isn't your pistol, just a matter of proper practice.

Are you a new pistol shooter? If you are, you just need more practice. Shooting pistols from 25 yards is challenging and a good skill to have, but I shoot most of my pistols at 7 yards. It's more realistic and it helps my self esteem to be able to put all my shots in such a small group. I'm no expert shot so I would be hardpressed to maintain anything smaller than 8 inch groups at 25 yards.

(Please note that this is from my experience with my XD-9. I am getting a 92FS next week. Maybe I'll shoot better with that.)

I've shot alot of pistols.  But I'm not trained and I'm not all that good.  But shooting tiny little off hand groups at 25 yards is definitely an expertise that I don't believe alot of people have.  And moreso than not, people generalize and don't really scrutinize how good of a group they can really do off hand.  I think the best I ever did at 25 yards was keeping all my shots within the black of a 100 yard small bore rifle target.  Which I believe is a 12" black bull.  And that was with my beretta.

That being said, I've gotten some pretty small benched groups with pistols over the years at 25 yards.  But offhand.  Forget it.  I need alot more practice and some coaching.

I'll see if I can find a pic of that target I was referring to.

I believe this one was either 20 or 25 yards, because I remembering being pretty proud of it.  For me that is

that's seven yards off hand

This is to prove to all the haters that the M9 is not THAT much bigger than a 1911.  It's snug in there but it works real well.

No I am not a new pistol shooter.  I started when I was 13 (24 now) with a HK USP .40.  I shoot a softball sized group with my 45s, but I think this trigger on the beretta is what is hanging me up.  It has a lot of take up in it.  I am used to a 1911 trigger.

I can get 50 rounds to all touch at 25 yards with my Beretta.  Now it ends up being one big hole (about the size of a grapefruit), but I think that's pretty damn good.  That's off-hand.  The Beretta is a REAL accurate pistol.

I can do even better with my Wilson, but other than the Wilson and the Beretta, I can't do that with any other pistol.  They just "work" for me.

No! Leave the bbl ALONE!

IMO, you need two things: a bit better trigger & some dryfiring time.

Replacing the mainspring will improve your trigger by lightening up the trigger pull by a few pounds.  Dryfiring will allow you to watch the front sight as you pull the trigger & you can see where you're pulling it. Hard to do this when one is dealing with recoil.

+1

A new barrel is probably the last thing you need.

Dry fire, Dry fire, Dry fire and then go to the range and practice what you have learned by dry firing.
It helped me.

It's hard to beat a Beretta for an everyday beater gun. As long as you feed it from quality mags, it won't let you down.

All it takes is time and practice.  It's not magic, just effort.  You'll get there .  Beretta makes a fine product.

And did someone say "beater" !!??  Beretta and beater shouldn't be in the same sentence!!  Beater is a star or a taurus or something like that.  Berettas are beautiful, functional, and quality firearms!!  I LOVE mine.
