I'll be getting my CHL in August (as soon as I'm 21) and I am really going back and forth on what my carry gun should be.
I have a full size M&P 9mm that has been flawless and I've enjoyed it, but I think it's a bit big for me to carry every day. So I'm torn between either selling my M&P and buying a Glock 19 (which I have trigger time on from my dad's.) or keeping the full size M&P and getting the M&P9c to complement it. I love my M&P but it's just too big. What would you guys recommend from your experiences in carrying?

I love my shield 9. It's all about what you feel best with. If you like the m&p 9 try a compact and see if you like it.

The 19 is a great choice.

But with a good holster and belt you can carry what you got now.

The slide on the Glock is thinner than the M&P. The M&P does manage to squeeze 12 rounds into a package little larger than the G26. That is what it is really: a pistol between the 19 and 26. It's all about what you can conceal. Carry the largest gun you can conceal effectively. I like having 15 rounds in the 19.

That pretty much sums it up.

I'm a Glock guy, but the M&Pc is a fine pistol and should work well for you.

If you already have the M&P 9, go ahead and get the M&P 9c.  The magazines will be interchangeable, and it's a great size for carry.  I have both the 19 and the M&P9c, and carry them both about equally.

You should carry what ever gun YOU can get quick, accurate, consistent hits with.  that's probably the gun you have the most time with. You can move around in that guns "family" but I woudnt stray too far. If you ever need the gun to defend your life or that of another, hits are all that count. No point in carrying a weapon if you cant get good hits with it

My first carry piece is a 9mm Shield. Love it.

I carry a 19 or a 26.  The 26 I carry appendix in a incog so if I'm driving a long distance I wear the 19 at 4 o'clock in my MTAC Minotaur.

I would stay with the M&P 'family'. Consider how you dress. The Shield will conceal easily under an untucked t-shirt. The 9c under just about anything else, maybe even the T. Carrying concealed takes a little time to get comfortable with, you tend to think you are 'printing' and everyone knows you are carrying. The Shield may help with that, but if the low round count bothers you go with the 9c. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Does your dad have an IWB holster for his 19? If so give that a shot and see how it works for you. That will get you a much better understanding of what you want. Personally I carry a CZ 2075BD but I'm not a fan of striker fired pistols. I prefer a DA/SA. Its all about what you personally want. If I was in your position I think I'd buy the M&P9c.
