Well..... I shot my new (to me) Glock today for the first time.  Round number 9 left powder burns on my fingers and left the front part of the case stuck in the chamber.  The case appears to have failed at the feed ramp area and the force ripped the rest of the case head off.

I guess this will teach me not to use cheep practice ammo.

For a rare occurance ...... it only took me 9 rounds to have it happen to me.

Be Safe

that looks like a box of reloads. BIG TIME NONO in a glock especially a .40

The box is shown in the picture.  It was generic white box ammo I got a while back at one of the local gun stores.  The cases are Federal.

I've ran several boxes of it through my .40 Browning Highpower without any problems.

Beer Slayer,

The only damage done was melting / singeing  the top of the magazine and large amounts of crud distributed throughout the breech area.

No cracks or damaged parts..........

I didn't feel lucky at the time ....... but I'm starting to

I don't shoot anybody's reloads, but mine, through my Glocks.  You got some bad reloads.  Federal is notorious for bad brass.  When I run across a piece of Federal rifle brass, I 86 it.

Looks like I spoke too soon.

Upon further examination my extracter is MIA.

Looks like I'll be doing some parts shopping on the web tonight.

On a brighter note....... The 3.5 # disconnector I installed felt real nice those first 8 rounds

check your frame closely as well.

this is the primary reason I am not a fan of the 40.  Too close to borderline for me.

You weren't shooting non-jacketed rounds were you?

MRW

No they were JHP's

I think I'll take Beer Slayers advise and strip it completely down and check each part individually.

This will also give me a good excuse to give some money to our friendly aftermarket parts makers...........I mean.......come on.... it's apart any way!!  Right !

Might want consider sending it to Glock for closer inspection, they have great customer service.

yep they told me 250.00 to replace or 275.00 to have it evaluated for possible warranty repair.

good luck if it's ok replace the parts yourself.

JW_in_Ohio - I had a case failure at the 6 o'clock position in my USP a couple of years ago.  I too was shooting someone elses reloads

It blew the magazine out of the well and scared the piss out of me.  I ended up sending mine back to H&K for inspection and they returned it with a clean bill of health.  I recommend you return it to Glock and let them look it over/repair/test your G22.

Keep us posted.

Some of those reloads have been reloaded a bazillion times!    this weakens even the sturdiest Federal brass.      Know your brass, it's your hand the explosion is happening in!!

I wouldn't shoot reloads, even my own, in a .40 Glock without a fully supported barrel.

The .40 Cal and the Glock 22 are a really wonderful combination with factory ammo.  But if you shoot reloads, invest $150 and get a KKM barrel for it.

Too bad about your pistol. Glad you are ok.

I fire only new, clean, commercial, SAAMI spec, copper case ammo through my Glock 40's. I think this lessens the chances of a failure. I also never fire ammo someone else gives me unless I know it fits the above criteria.

Walter and others are right about Federal brass, although I think the newer stuff has been beefed up a bit and should be fine. If you must reload, as one other poster said "Know your brass", and use an aftermarket barrel with more case support.

I guess that my thinking was that the ammo I was using wasn't relods from Billy Bob down the street.

It was ammo I purchased from a retail store that had been (Remanufactured ) by a company with a manufacturers liscence.

However, I have definately learned my lesson with my Glock.  FACTORY NEW AMMO ONLY from now on.

Case failures only happen in plastic pistols?

back in 95 federals were notorious for blowing up 40 caliber glocks.  Old brass most likely.  If you want to save money shooting your glock, just buy wolf and leave the crappy reloads.

Call GLOCK Inc and ask for Tech Services, explain the problem and the manufacturer of the ammo.  They will do one of two things, have you send in your pistol and 1. fix it under warranty or 2. fix it at cost.

You should have a Glock certified armorer look at that.
