I think my next HK will probably be a USPc 9 for summer carry. Anyone know anything about an extended mag release for these pistols? As far as I know, no on the extended mag release - although w/ time you may appreciate it for what it is. I know I do, the HK45 is great, but the mag release IMO is just a little too big/too easy to hit when compared to the USP 45. |

My thumb can't reach the USP mag release very easily without adjusting my grip, so I may just have to get used to hitting it with my middle finger. |

Do extended mag releases exist for these pistols? You dont need one if used properly. Use your trigger finger to manipulate it, NOT your thumb. Once you get used to this method, you'll think the standard thumb mag releases suck. What he said. After getting use to the HK mag release I find it awkward and downright goofy trying to drop mags out of 1911s, 92s and 96s, or other thumb released weapons. Who in the right mind would put a mag release where you have to use your thumb to drop it? Apparently almost everyone. You have to loosen your grip to drop a mag with your thumb since the left gripping side of the hand (the thumb) is now out of complete contact with the pistol, whereas when you drop it with your trigger finger you still have three fingers gripping the right side of the firearm and the thumb gripping on the left so your grip does not have to be lessened. I know, I know, that is a very minor relaxing of the grip but you still have to do it none the less. Practice using your trigger finger to drop the mag and in no time you will be a convert also. |
