Let me start out by saying I'm dead set on a .45 ACP :) That said I'm looking at either a 1911 or USP Compact Id like to keep the price to $600. So I'm pretty sure I'd have to get a USP used. For years I've been set on getting a 1911 but I really love HK. I guess my question is this: What 1911 should I get if I want to go that route? Ive been looking mostly Para Ordnance and Charles Daly. I spose I wouldnt be opposed to getting something used if I good find a nice 1911 for 600 or so. Im in the Air Force so I have handgun experience albeit it with the 92 Beretta series which are ok guns but I dont like Berettas or Glocks, Berettas requiring what I consider to much upkeep to run smoothly every time out and Gloxks being downright ugly lol. So any advice you all have would be great. Thanks in advance. |

The USP is a nice gun, but the "compact" ain't all that compact. For a 1911, I would look until I found a nice condition Kimber Series I for under $600, which should not be very hard to do. Also I would look hard at the Springfields, as they build some nice pistols, too. Sig 220 is also a very nice pistola, and both Springfield (XD) and S&W (new 1911 & SW99) are due out with new .45 models soon. Look at and try as many as you can before you buy. (Of course, it really doesn't matter much since one .45 is never enough!) |

Springfield Champion makes a nice carry .45 as the receiver has a full size frame, so you get a three-fingered grip and 7+1 capacity, coupled with a shorter slide. I believe the barrel length is about 4.25". I sold mine in a moment of monumental stupidity. Springfield will hold its value better than a Charles Daly and has better craftsmanship, IMHO. USP's are pretty spendy, plus the holster market, grip market, and various other accessories is huge for 1911's. You won't have near the selection if you go with the USP. If it's Charles Daly or Para, go with Para. But for the $$ you want to spend it would be a new Charles Daly or used Para. Of course I'd say learn to love the Tactical Tupperware and go for a Glock. I've never regretted the switch, but to each his own. |

I personally like my .45 glocks, they may not be pretty, but they are great guns. I have shot a Sig 45 (p220?) a few times, it seemed like a good gun for a regular da/sa. Most of my 1911 experience is with Colts, there is a lot to be said for them. I think the light trigger pull is much easier to master than a DA/SA or even a Glock. I'm also surprised at how narrow they seem. I'm thinking about the Springfield Mil Spec as play gun, I'd probably spring for a "loaded" or whatever they are called for carry use. |

1911 for single action, Sig P220 for double action. There is no good in between. Kimber or maybe a Springfield for 1911 unless you can afford a Wilson..... Glocks are good Don't bother with an H&K unless you are going for a SOCOM, I prefer the SIG to all other DA pistols, all of mine have always worked, every time. JMO YMMV dave |
