After 6 long months (that's how long permit takes in NY), I finally got my first handgun. I walked into the store convinced I was going to get a Sig P226 or P229, but after holding just about every gun they had, I was convinced the S&W M&P 9 was perfect for me. It felt great in my hand and I shot even better with it than I had with SIGs that I've tried before. I'm totally psyched! I got to the range yesterday morning and ran through 150 rounds. I was keeping 2-3" groups at 7 yards. I'm happy to report I had no issues with it whatsoever! For anyone that is considering one, go for it.

The M&P 9c is definitely in my future.

Here are the obligatory pics:

I feel bad only 10 round mags.

OP, if you had bought a Glock, you could have found some pre-1994 hi-caps.  With the S&W, you are stuck with 10rounds.
Other than that, nice choice.

I am aware of that. Actually, I had bought a bunch of pre-ban Sig P226, P229, and G19 mags in anticipation of purchasing one of these. But, once I got into the store I let my hands make the final decision. In the end, I'm happy and think I'll get by with the 10 rounders for now. I won't always live in NY anyway.

Excellent. Congratulations on your new M&P.

I love mine. It's accurate and reliable. S&W did a great job with this pistol, imo.

I got three 17 rd mags with mine here in NC, what's up with the NY 10 rd thing?

Awesome!  I got my first handgun a few months ago,  a M&P40, but haven't got to shoot it so I could build up a little ammo.  So far I really like it.  Now to try loading for it.

Great choice, I love my M&P .40

I will probably end up getting the compact version eventually.

Nice gun, I'll probably be getting one soon, so I have something cheaper to shoot.

Not bad

So when you finally get your pistol permit is it good for just one gun, or can you buy a few?

You can buy as many as you want, but you must buy a $10 purchase document and have it w/ at time of pistol purchase. (Nassau County)
