Today I got to fire handguns for the first time.  Used a Springfield M1911 A1 in 9mm, a Beretta Cougar in 9mm, a Ruger Mark 5 .22 LR, and a Ruger SP101 revolver in .22 LR.  They were all great though the revolver felt strange to grip.  Liked the Springfield more than all the others, but when I get a pistol I am going for a Beretta model 92FS.

congratulations!  and I'm glad you enjoyed it, too.  personally, I love the 92FS, but others don't.  you'll hear good and bad about it, but overall it's a nice gun.  just don't let it become your only pistol.  more is better

Your buddy is the only other guy I know that has a SA 1911 in 9mm as I do. Any idea what he paid for his?

Actually it was my uncle, and he got his in a trade for his old Beretta model 92F.

Glad you enjoyed what I have liked doing for many years.
Once you buy one, you can't stop...you will see.
A 92FS is a good choice, relatively cheap to shoot, 15 round magazines are available and it is standard U.S. issue. (they look good too)
I hope you will enjoy it even more, as it will be yours!
