I'm going to order another Wilson and have not been able to decide on the have the front cocking serations left off or on?  I like the clean look of my Professional without but my CQB  looks great with them?

you going for looks? or function?  Either reason is fine, my STI lawman has the front serrations but i never use them, so i went with nay.  But i DO think they look good.

I voted Nay because I don't use them, but I also think they can look fine on a 1911.

I use them on my XD45, gives me additional grip when I am clearing the weapon and want to catch the bullet as it comes out rather than letting it fall to the floor.

FCS are an abomination to all 1911's. Period.

I can take them or leave them, leave them is preferable.

My opinion is that front serations on a 1911 are like spinning rims on a car. Since they serve no useful function, they scream,"Hey, look at me, I can afford to waste money on useless cosmetic silliness just to get attention."

My"rule" is that if it serves a legitimate function, dressing it up to appeal to your eye is cool. If it is just decoration, leave it off.

Some people actually use them. Not me, but some people do- and to them, that makes FCS necessary.

No vote here.  Its not something I'd use.

I use them in press checks, but that's about it.  For a nightstand, or 'semi-tactical' pistol they're fine.  On a carry pistol, I'm now convinced they should be omitted.

I like 'em.  But it's not really that significant.  I could really get along just fine with or without 'em.

Will the pistol have a rail and light on it?  If yes, then yes.

Otherwise, no keep the slide clean and clear.

I wouldn't order a custom with FCS but they don't really bother me. I have a Colt CC XSE with them and it looks fine.

No, one of my CQB's I ordered already has the rail.  Ones enough.

Nay. Who want's to put a hand near the muzzle of a hot weapon? Also it looks bad IMHO.

There you go then, get it without them.

Order high power cuts and ball cuts instead like this..

I am not quite that adamant about it...........but close.

I say yes because they don't look bad and they do have some purpose.

Personally, I wouldn't pay extra for them. My Loaded had them when I bought it. I don't even know what I'd use them for. I don't what my hand near that end of the barrel when there's a round in the chamber.

Just my $.02

I like them for IPSC.

when the RO says

"IF YOU ARE FINISHED,  UNLOAD AND SHOW CLEAR"

I dump the mag,  reach under the dustcover with my weak(left) hand and rack the slide back.

this way allows the RO to clearly see the round ejecting, and a clear/empty chamber.

Kinda like this,( except I think Rob is clearing a jam)....

It may look cool but I prefer none on mine.
With just more grooves to clean and I don't plan on putting my hands that close to the loud end.
Hey, groove the whole slide if you like...

I voted "yes," neither my M9 nor my 1911 has them, and I have always wanted them, because I would use them.  Obviously, I can do without, but IMHO, they are useful for clearing the weapon/clearing jams, and locking the slide back.

Oh, and blasphemy of all blasphemy, I *like* the way they look.

Planning to get them put in once I get some more work done to my 1911.

Useful?  Can be.

Attractive?  Nope.  I like the looks of a 1911 without them.

This is 'one of those threads' that I have NO business replying to.
But I will.
I build guns for some quite serious users. Most of them want front serrations or high power cuts.
To each...his own.

I do the same but I turn my gun on the side and rack....burns like a mother with the slide cuts on my limited gun and I touch barrel

By the way that is one old pic of Robbie.....pre Springfield.

Look at the writing on his shoulder,  it says SPRINGFIELD ARMORY

also DILLON, and ERNIE HILL Speed Leather, and possibly WILSON COMBAT

I like the retro OAKLEY's

I'm old school and like the 1911 the way it was made originally. No serations and no light rail. Think about it do you think you will ever need to cock the pistol using the front serations, they were added for the people that use them in competition. I'm sure more people have shot themselves when they put their hand over the end of the barrel to cock the pistol. I would never use them. Old school.

My weak(left) hand NEVER goes in front of the muzzle.

.....in competition or otherwise.

There is no need to put your hand in front of the muzzle competition or other wise to use the front cocking serrations.  My next Single Stack build won't have any that is for sure.
