This maybe the wrong discription but it's the cap that goes over the spring that you slide over to lock it in place.
I bought a 1911 A1 awhile back and never took it apart ... So with the help of some vids on youtube i went for it ... So my question is ther guide rod does not extend all the way out the same distance as the barrol ..... did i put it togeather wrong ? Can someone put up a pic of what it should look like Thanks |

If you have a 1911 with the original g.i. recoil spring guide, it doesn't stick out the front of the pistol when the slide is retracted. A clue would be, if the "cap" (recoil spring plug) doesn't have a hole in, the recoil spring guide rod isn't supposed to stick out, and you don't need to read any further.
If your pistol has a full length guide rod (flgr) it can be either two-piece, or one long piece. If its a two piece guide rod, the back half is installed first and the pistol is assembled. The front half is inserted into the hole in the plug and screwed into the back half. If your pistol has a flgr but is one piece, the assembly process depends on the brand of the pistol and the configuration of the guide rod itself. Question: What brand and model of pistol? |
